I need to clear nary a thing with him aside from how much more lettuce and peppers are set out that day.\r\n\r\nWhat I learned here with this auction was an interesting thing (about myself!). Taking an otherwise stock (almost) original classic machine and lavishing it with a very polarizing but flattering unoriginal colour (the correct choice is paramount!) is an unexpected thrill!\r\n\r\nWhen you've restored umpteen classics to a dead-nuts-original spec (as I have), you sort of get weary of that objective. At some point you want to push the envelope a bit. This lavender Rocket 3 did that. It assaults the senses of the purists, causes controversy...opens up the conversation. I loved that!\r\n\r\nI own a restored '70 Bonnie (who doesn't, right?), but instead of the original metallic red with the silver flash, I did it in a brilliant Teal with white. It gets waaay more attention at any bike meet than the stock Bonnies. Who knew?\r\n\r\nI'm thinking of restoring something really iconic, totally original but in totally wrong livery...just to push the purists' buttons. A photo in a book may be a true representation, or it may be off.\r\n10 years ago or so when I restored mine, I contacted the TR3OC in the UK, and they couldn't pin down the color. Since then, I've seen pics of at least one UK R3 in green, and it looks pretty good. I used a modern VW color, a metallic, and it turned out nice.\r\nBSA had a catalog color gold with a green tint. Like the Guzzi? This color is exactly the same as the one I saw in the flesh in Italy with original paint many years ago.\r\n\r\nThe one marked 'BSA Rocket 3 750cc original colour, one of only about 43.'
