The is models had Recaro seats and a different steering wheel as well as other less visible mechanical differences - limited slip I believe and different sway bars. If this is an is I am \u201cin\u201d on this auction but otherwise have to say this is a beautiful example of the 320 series cars. My Dad has a 1980 320is which was amazing to drive. It was supple and balanced. And in anthracite grey metallic I think it looked fabulous. This color also looks great - such an interesting color! Although that era of 320 in any version was slow and ours with a four speed was noisy on the highway it was a GREAT car. If the seller doesn't have one you'll need to find one in a junkyard. You'll want to use a Sanden rotary compressor because it's light and works better than the old piston compressor BMW used back then. You'll need another bracket to adapt the compressor to the original bracket. it might need to be modified. Condensers are easy to find and the modern versions are cheap, easy to find, and come in a variety of sizes. Mounting one will take a little creativity and probably some cutting. You'll also need a new dryer. These are cheap. Hopefully the evaporator and expansion valve are in place and working properly. I almost forgot, you'll need an electric fan to mount in front of the condenser. Finally, you'll need to fabricate new hoses to connect all this together, remember, you'll probably have more than one type of fitting to deal with. The parts aren't terribly expensive, but if you can't do the work yourself (I couldn't) plan on spending some serious money.
