Yes, when I bid on the bike in the previous auction I saw that there were only a few cosmetic things that still needed to be taken care of like the shocks. But overall, the previous owner had spared absolutely no expense to bring the bike up to a very high standard. As a guy who tends to over-restore stuff myself, I knew that I couldn't buy a complete SL for any price and then get it to the same point for less than the auction price. Chrome, zinc plating, powdercoat and paint have gone up so much it's a struggle to have it all pencil out these days. The bike looked even better in person but ran just ok. Most concerning was a rattly top end noise. Thankfully it turned out to just be that the cam chain tensioner that was jacked up but luckily it caused no damage and with that fixed the top end was quiet. Another area that was greatly improved was carburation. The carb that came with the bike was a repop from who knows where which allowed the bike run ok. I sourced an original Keihin and rebuilt it with a Japanese Keyster kit so now the bike starts, idles and runs as good as it looks. As far as resale, for me owning the bike for 11 months is actually a fairly long time! My love of tinkering combined with my addiction to classifieds means that there is always another project on the horizon!
