At that time, the car had been owned by a well-known Porsche collector/restorer who had purchased the car just after the restoration was completed. The restoration was performed by Porsche experts at Redmond European between 2012-2015 with other experts contributing to the project including new upholstery and mechanical items as needed. \r\n\r\nInvoices accompanying the car total over $32,000.00 for the restoration work performed during that period of ownership. \r\n\r\nDuring the restoration, the engine was rebuilt by Tony Turchin using 81MMX9.8:1 2.0 liter pistons, ceramic coated rod bearings, main bearings, new wrist pin bushings, IMS shaft bearings, all new gaskets, and a set of PMO type carburetors. \r\n\r\nThe brakes and brake lines were rebuilt, new master cylinder installed, all fuel lines replaced, the ignition converted to Pertronix, Optima battery, a new fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator installed, and the CV joints were cleaned and repacked. Monty Jarvis rebuilt the gearbox including new synchro sleeves. \r\n\r\nAfter the restoration, additional work was performed in June 2017, with 61,371 miles including replacing the shifter and bushings with an upgraded unit from J West Engineering. Left front brake caliper rebuilt, targa roof refinished, new spark plugs. \r\n\r\nThe current owner purchased this car in 2019 and continued to refine the car to a high level of finish and mechanical detail. Receipts from Eason Autoworks totaling $8,000.00 include the following:\r\n\r\nMay 2019, with 61,670 miles \u2013 Valve adjustment, new Sweptco transmission fluid, brake flush, new rear Bilstein shock absorbers, new exhaust manifold gaskets, new specially crafted \u2018914-6 Werkshop\u2019 heat exchangers, new muffler gaskets, new bumper tops, and fixing a transmission leak at the shift shaft. These have a great feel to them. They offer exceptional throttle response, smooth progressive acceleration, and reliability with a slight bit more hp added to the stock engine. Many who restore their Porsche to drive have used the PMO carbs because of these reasons. It might not be factory stock, but it delivers on the promise of performance without significant alterations to the stock engine configuration. \n\nThe other modifications made to this car (all of which can be easily switched back) includes 914-6 'Werkshop\u2019 heat exchangers, Pertronix ignition, and an Optima battery. \n\nAs for the engine casing and presence of epoxy, we are investigating this in more detail but it's possible this was applied to fill mounting holes for the cable management bracket that was relocated to a different mount at the upper portion of the casing to clear the custom heat exchangers. This is a recommended application after the plugs have been installed. Wayne Dempsey recommends this in his authoritative book on Porsche engine rebuilds and modifications. The epoxy is a preventative seal which helps extend the longevity of the plugs. \n\nNot all builders do this so you will not see it consistently done on all engines. When it is done, it is often applied with a range of sealants so not always consistent. Some use JB Weld which is less visually notable due to color, but epoxy does a better job adhering given the broader range of engine temperatures. \n\n@RSOHC apologies for not replying sooner on your other question.
