Because after years of beloved station wagons my dogs decided they wanted more room to stretch out and a higher ride height for easier gazing and daydreaming.\r\n\r\nThe \u201994 3/4 ton small block is the SWEETHEART!\r\n\r\n160k and all original and if detailed could go on the showroom floor. No trailer hitch ever and probably why it\u2019s so smooth and tight. The perfect highway flyer and yes it has the ginormous optional gas tank.\r\n\r\nThe \u201896 GMC I bought in great original shape except it had developed a loose air intake fitting on a long trip and it inhaled way too much dust and developed a bad knock. It is in reserve \u201cfor later\u201d.\r\n\r\nThe \u201899 is a max-option plus sunroof POTUS lookalike. I got it for towing.\r\nI like it and the 454 but I have always had issues with the brakes. It may be it was built on a Monday or Friday.\r\n\r\nI am waiting for a \u201894-\u201899 2wd 2500 454 to round out the family. I was working a trade show in New Iberia, Louisiana. It was Friday early afternoon, the show was over and the truck was packed to the gills with display fixtures and equipment. I was ready to get home to my girl back in Big D.\r\n\r\nMy boss called and ordered me to stop and get a 40 quart igloo cooler and pack it with as much live crawfish as could be loaded with a 10 pound bag of ice. It was April and there was no shortage of crawfish stands on the roadside so dutifully I obliged and manged to shoehorn it in behind my seat.\r\n\r\nThe main road was a sort of four lane highway with feeder roads on either side. Traffic was picking up and I was wanting to get a move on. I swung about 4 of its 18 feet into the roadway before having to jam on the brakes. In my haste I had oriented that cooler the wrong way and live crawfish came flying over the headrest; some making it onto the dashboard, into my lap and underfoot. Worse, more than I like to remember came falling down the collar of my shirt.\r\n\r\nI can only imagine those who witnessed this at close range; my wide eyed flailing and flinging those wriggling and pinching, cold and wet mud bugs out the window.\r\n\r\nI learned a lesson that day.
