Just this side of Embassy Black, color code 1, and Thistle Gray cc 11, as my favorite factory colors for a Tiger.\n\nMediterranean Blue, cc 58, is a really handsome color, and I Love the seat trim color selected for the interior: it's not factory --nothing like this color was ever offered by Sunbeam, but it complements the metallic paint color on this handsome-looking restored car, in my opinion.\n\nI do, however, respectfully disagree with @Warren that it is Not sacrilege to remove the VIN tag on Sunbeams. A return to originality remains an option, but when --as with this car-- the color code has been changed from the original, and has been done when the VIN plate has been removed, there is no evidence of the car's history, should a subsequent owner wish to return the car to its original color. \n\nIf the VIN tag had remained in place, 1) there would be no debate about the originality of the rivets and 2) a reference patch of original ( and minimally oxidized ) paint would have been preserved under the VIN plate. The inspector noticed that the paint on the cowl was beautiful-too beautiful and pried the edge of the vin tag. Shiny paint under the tag. The vin tag was installed with the correct rivets. \u201cWell, we will have to add a blue state vin tag, as we don\u2019t know this is the right tag\u201d. My friend was devastated. The car would be seen as a possible Alger, if only because of a blue tag on his car. Fortunately, he took it back a week later to have an appeal inspection, and the senior reviewer passed the car. Don\u2019t think that popping vins is no big deal- the states control this, and they can have adverse input. If it\u2019s done, it\u2019s done, but if it\u2019s not, think hard, and definitely have the correct rivets to reinstall the plate. I have no idea where I got this Tremec idea from. It's a 4-speed top-loader.\r\n63Falcon: Never driven the car in the rain, so can't say for sure. It would be easy to mount a plate underneath to stop it, though.\r\nIt was first registered in 1967, so I've been calling it that.\r\nThe paint/body guy was top quality at that, but business acumen, not so much. It didn't help that he moved shop and may well have the original VIN tag somewhere. I finally got to speak to him today and he's away working for 2 weeks, but will look for it when he returns. I built it for me. I don't think it is necessarily sacrilege to remove a VIN plate to paint a car as long as the before pictures are recorded. It is sacrilege to lose these things. The $120k number is real money but that's what it takes to do it right. In the end, you have your car your way but know what it takes to get there. Did I mention the time spent on the process? It is time consuming and not without frustration that also has it's cost, not necessarily in money if you can avoid going to the therapist to deal with it and to try to figure out why you started it in the first place. \r\nI had written a long comment on the VIN plate and JAL tag, but BaT sent it to cyberspace. In short, if you expect a body shop or even an experienced restorer to be cognizant of things like that, do it yourself.
