I own one of these, but the previous non turbo version. I've driven the turbo, and it's absolutely more of the same. These aren't really sports cars, but they provide interstellar travel at light speed if you wish. All in a relatively quiet fuss free way. They just get on with the job, be it stop start city traffic, or hours of autobahn at silly speeds. They are built for it all in typical German way, overbuilt, calm, reliable, but always capable of more than you think. While I hesitate to call these supercars, and they are definitely as fast as some of the supercars I've owned (still own), It's probably useful to think of them along the lines of superman, but still in his neat understated Clark Kent suit. My 600 is probably the best car I've ever owned, except when it comes to paying repair costs, which can mount up if you just leave it at a dealer. I've found it best to cultivate a relationship with a knowledgeable Benz specialist, and reap the benefits and savings there. Having said that, for daily running costs they are remarkably frugal, which was a very pleasant surprise, while they are a little hard on tyre wear, depending on how you drive, that's to be expected from a heavy car with the amount of torque this has. It does translate to effortless progress down the road, and I've found that the fuel consumption can be remarkable for such a car if you let the smart engine management, cylinder cut out programming do it's work. I've seen a best highway consumption of 8.3l/100km on long interstate trips. Ridiculous for 2 tonnes of car with a potent 5.5 V12 under the hood. For some reason (probably engineering), these cars seem to have very little roll resistance, and feel very slippery through the air, which must contribute to the great figures. There is one area of caution for a new owner, which I learnt the hard way, but it's not a costly one. When changing the spark plugs, all 24 of them, there are small red insulators that slip onto the end of each plug. The factory service information says to replace these 'every' time the plugs are changed regardless of condition. If you are using the correct high performance palladium plugs, then this is only necessary every 100,000km anyway. The insulators are only around $1 each, but don't be tempted to re-use them. I did it once and was plagued with an intermittent miss. So one or two plugs going out in a V12 that has cylinder cut out is extremely hard to pick to start with, so you may never notice it, but the engine management system will pick it up straight away, and put the car in 'limp' mode (which cuts out certain functions, and limits top speed), and it will log a fault. Every time it's shut down and subsequently restarted, it will start in normal mode till it senses a miss, then go into limp and repeat the process. This is one fault that the cars system can't self diagnose, so it can give your technician hours of headaches trying to fault find from the codes. It also seems to be a V12 only fault, the 8's don't seem to do it, so unless your technician is very experienced on these V12's he might struggle. Ok, so apart from that one small issue, and a habit of plastics going brittle after this many years (re. broken glovebox latch), which is just a case of replacing with new parts, not much goes wrong with these. I think the new owner will be a very lucky person indeed, especially if they get out and really use the car, which is what it's built for. I've done nearly 400,000km in mine, mostly trouble free. I've found that if you fit ceramic brake pads on a new front rotor, you will get well over 100,000km from the rotors, otherwise they wear rapidly with normal pads. Just watch out for the first couple of stops in the morning while the pads are cold. \r\n\r\n Beautiful low mileage car, beautiful condition, and colour combination, there will be one super lucky new owner at the end of this. I have been its lucky owner for 5 years, and I agree with most of the preceding comments. Since my engine was taken by RennTech to 635hp, my gas mileage certainly has suffered. It is the only car I have ever owned that on a short, spirited drive the gas gauge will noticeably rotate counterclockwise as the tach does so clockwise! If mileage is a concern, keep the Honda. Secondly, if left sitting for more than a few days, the electronics will rapidly drain the battery, and short drives are NOT enough to keep it charged. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, ALLOW THE BATTERY TO FULLY DISCHARGE! By the time my flat bed arrived, the front suspension had settled to the point that the car could not be moved without damaging the fenders. For awhile I thought I had a 2+ ton boat anchor in my garage! Fortunately, once jump started the problem goes away. This is simply prevented by a battery tender and I recommend C-Tech. The major \"Achilles heel\" in these is the incredible hydraulic suspension, which allows this massive machine to drive like a go-kart. Through a dealer, replacing the entire system ( 4 struts and 2 control modules) could run 20K. However, this is highly unlikely to be required all at once. In the worst case, the entire system can be converted to standard coil-over shocks for less than 5K. The system from Yellow Speed Europe looks attractive. Also, it is perfectly normal for the front to begin settling after a few weeks. As these cars enter the nadir of their depreciation, I honestly feel they represent one of the greatest values, as long as you understand and accept the cost of ownership. I also feel that NOTHING Mercedes has made since comes close! As others have said, this colour combo is much better at showing the quality of these cars than the usual black on black. CL600s are amazing cars - so smooth, so quiet, so comfortable, and so fast, even by today\u2019s standards. I love the CL class, and the 2003-2006 CL600 turbo models are perhaps my favourite. They\u2019re smaller and lighter than the C216, though the C216 has more rear seat room, newer tech, and perhaps the ABC is a bit more reliable.\n\nCatastrophic failures of multiple parts of ABC system usually only happen when neglected, and failures are allowed to cascade. They key to keeping an ABC suspension healthy is preventative maintenance. ABC fluid and filters should be changed periodically, despite the lack of an official service interval. ABC accumulator spheres should be changed pre-emptively if they\u2019re over 12 years old. ABC pulsation dampers can also fail with age, and can cause pump, valve, line, and strut damage if you keep driving with a failed damper, so replace those promptly when they fail too, or replace pre-emptively. If you flush the fluid periodically, replace the accumulators and damper when they get old, and periodically inspect hydraulic lines for wear or cracking, this greatly reduces the probability of expensive failures (pump, strut, valve) or failures that can leave you stranded (hydraulic line burst). The ABC suspension has a wonderful combination of a plush smooth ride with flat cornering and braking, so don\u2019t switch to coil overs, just maintain it so it doesn\u2019t fail in expensive ways. The powertrain on these cars is pretty reliable.\n\nIt looks like this particular car would benefit from a new rear bumper cover, given the crack and chrome damage. I\u2019m guessing this is from the January 2020 incident. If it's a daily driver, or a couple of times a week, then it shouldn't have issues. Like everything on these cars it pays to use the best quality you can find, and batteries are no different. I had a reasonable run using silver calcide batteries, which I used precisely because they tend to hold charge very well. The issue isn't about the battery holding charge however, it's about the large number of components that continue to run and use power even once the car has shut off. Locking the car helps, as it shuts down additional power draws, but realistically I agree with ibessarion, the best way to safeguard yourself is to set up a battery tender you can just plug in when the car isn't being used. I actually lost a couple of batteries from this, once when the car was sitting at a workshop waiting for parts, and once when I was overseas for nearly a month. If allowed to go flat the system will just continue to draw the battery down to nothing, which kills even good quality batteries.
