All fixable stuff, but some of those dash pieces are a little hard to find in good condition. The few rust issues are a little concerning, but I don't think it's hiding anything big considering it was in the flood almost 40 years ago. There were many 71-74 Javelins with 232 code E and 258s code A in them. There was also a base Javelin code 5 offered in 71 where all of the 72-74s started out as an SST code 7. \r\n\r\nHere in kenosha, in the late 70s early 80s you would see a bunch of jacked upped javelins and AMXs in Tremper and Bradford parking lots. Only thing missing is the N 60-15 tires to fill the wheel well more. This one is a little too high for the tire on it. I would bring it down slightly or get a bigger tire to complete the look. \r\n\r\nHard to tell for sure but this was most likely an ac car judging by what looks like a home made plate covering the holes in the firewall for the AC lines go. @mjdsf can you confirm this as the pictures are too dark to tell for sure. AMC didn't punch that plate out in the firewall for non ac cars. Only the ones that had AC from the factory. There would have been a rubber over metal plate screwed to that opening that the freon lines passed through to seal them. As for the red engines, yes CA cars, engines sent to IH and those used in industrial use all got red paint instead of the blue. The first was a red/black 72 that was languishing in the auto shop lot. It had been lowered so badly that it slammed on every speed bump leaving the high school parking lot, but it had a running 304ci engine and a decent interior. The body was not perfect on that car (as one example, someone had cut twin sunroofs into it, one of which flew off on the freeway), so when this one was spotted in the classifieds, we made the drive out to BFE-wherever to check it out. \r\n\r\nI can attest to the fact that the car was the original limelight green at the time, and the body was straight with no rust (thank you, California), but had clearly been sitting in a field and the reg was out of date going back to sometime in the mid-80s. So the plan was to strip this one completely and use it for the body, which was good, and use all the good parts from the 72, which would have been the interior and everything else. For everyone asking about parts that are slightly mismatched for this car, it's probably because a bunch came from the 72. That car was rear-ended by a driver who ran a red light in the summer of 2000. We were spared partially by the fact that it wasn't idling properly, so at the time we were hit, the car was in neutral being revved to keep it going (and the intersection in front of us was luckily clear). But that car was toast after that. It was a shame because the taillights on the 72 are pretty cool, and those were completely destroyed in the impact.\r\n\r\nThe plan was to get this one painted and get all the parts out of the 72 to have a complete car in time for our senior year of high school (which began Autumn 2000). Obviously, this was a throwback build even then. I am absolutely cracking up at the comments about this being perfect for the high school parking lot because that is EXACTLY what we had in mind, down to the choice of colors even, which roughly matched our school colors. BaT doesn't like to represent specific colors if it's not factory paint but I will tell you what they are: the blue is the Dodge Viper blue, and the white is Lexus pearl metallic. \r\n\r\nOf course, ambition took over and decisions were made like sourcing the 390ci engine, 4-speed manual transmission, and some beefy rear end that was hopefully going to handle all that power (20+ years later, I can tell you that apparently it does). All of this led to delays and finally the project was put on hold when we went to college. The good news here is that everything was kept track of (down to the last bolt and screw, with receipts for literally everything), and the car was garaged, as far as I am aware, for the entire time until it made it down to Los Angeles where the build was finally completed some roughly 20 years later.\r\n\r\nI have driven this car now and it is an absolute riot. The acceleration will knock you back in your seat, and is accompanied by a cacophony of sound from the engine that cannot be matched. I've felt faster acceleration in things like Teslas and Rivians, but it's not the same. This is raw, uncivilized, and unforgiving. Your traction control is your right foot. Watch the videos and you'll hopefully get some idea, but it ultimately has to be experienced in person.\r\n\r\nIf you bought an AMC in the 70s, you were probably a little bit different. I consulted with someone that has been around AMCs since the 1970s. That person worked at an AMC dealership. One day, he observed a Javelin with a 343 2V engine and automatic on the column. He checked the VIN and it matched. As for Javelin 3-on-the-tree manuals, it was only available in 1968, presumably on any engine except the 390. If Go-Pac was specified, then either the automatic or 4-speed was mandated (at extra cost). From observation, the 3-on-the-tree is extremely rare, so most Javelins must have been ordered with a floor shift. From 1969-1974, the three speed floor shift was standard on all Javelins except for cars with the 390 or 401 & perhaps also 360 4 barrel motors. 4-speed was never available with the 232, 258 or 304 motors & as you mentioned, the 290 2V in 1969. The SC/Hornet was available with 360 2V or 4V engines and the trans were 3-speed, 4-speed or automatic. Other Hornets with the 360 2V would have either 3 speed or automatic. The 390 motor was available in the 1970 Rebel but only with the automatic, except for the \"Machine\". 390 available in Ambassadors came only with the automatic. The 1971 Matador Machine was likely also available with only the automatic or 4 speed. The person who saw the \"unicorn\" Javelin is reliable but could have made a mistake back then. I will endeavor to verify an S code Javelin. AMC did not take great pains to document stuff. For example, very late in 1969, some Javelins had the 1970 front suspension. Not identical to the 1970 because it still used the 68-69 lower control arm.
