I have a car lift in my shop and I power washed the bottom of the car and wheel wells. Next I started scrubbing with a strong detergent called oil eater, by hand with brushes, tooth brushes and used dish sink scrub pads. I repeated this cycle 3-4 times. I then touched up some scrapes to the bottom of the car and gas tank with Wurth Stone guard, then I made some touch up paint custom color blended to cover those areas. There was a lot of cosmoline on the bottom of this 911SC more that I have ever seen, it did a great job of protecting the car all these years but it holds black dirt like a magnet. I used pro power goo gone, letting it soak then scrubbing and repeating till I got off most of the cosmoline. I did not have to repaint any of the black suspension parts simply touched up some scrapes etc. I like semi-flat black for that. On the fasteners, hardware, rear aluminum trailing arms and brake backing plates etc. I used corrosion-x (a great anti-corrosive oil) and 0000 fine steel wool. When I'm done I hand paste wax the entire bottom of the car and wheel wells, the front trunk, engine compartment, under the front and rear lids etc also gets waxed. I can say from experience this is not fun, it is way more fun to present an excellent car, a level two car rather than a level 3 or 4 car. I'm using the Hagerty scale, level one is concourse, best in the world, level two is excellent, level three is good etc. I strive for level two, excellent or level two plus. Another example of level one is a Porsche entered into Porsche Club of America concourse scoring nearly 300 out of 300 points. Again I shoot for level two or better, excellent.
