I had a 2006 C2500 with the 8.1 and 4.10 gears. It would tow a two story house straight up Mt Everest, but it burned gas like a blowtorch. Towing a 32 foot travel trailer, I would get 7-8 mpg at 60 mph. When I wasn\u2019t towing, driving carefully (slow and steady) meant 12-13 mpg highway at 65, and 10-11 mpg in typical mixed driving. I watched it closely because this was when gas was $4-5/gallon. It often cost $125-150 to fill the 34 gallon tank, but that capacity also meant pretty good range. And yes, mine burned a little oil, which seems to be common with the 8.1\u2019s.
