That means you have to replace all hydraulic hoses, reseal pumps, probably a full coolant system and fuel system clean. That would cost you easily $20k at a specialty shop. Can someone do it all on your own and save some money? Absolutely. That's true of any car. \n\nThe problem is that because this car has been sitting so long, as soon as you start driving the dominos are going to start falling and you're just going to be continually chasing issues. Neither car has been a walk in the park maintenance wise, and even in the San Francisco Bay Area it can be a challenge to find the right shop to work on these cars. Larry Anderson in Berkeley used to work on the really old cars, but I do not know if he is still working on cars. Of course, there is ACME in Hayward and Bentley of Walnut Creek as well as the Los Gatos Rolls-Royce dealership. It will be interesting to see how this auction turns out. The Mulsanne up for auction here is an SZ 20,000 series, so once cleaned up and properly sorted out, it could be a nice way to get into Proper Motor Car ownership for someone. I hope the seller understands that my remarks are intended to be constructive. This car probably has more going for it than the 1989 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur that I was forced to sell at a great loss despite picking it up for less than a song in 2006. That car had 5 prior owners and 90,000 miles on it when I bought it at a mechanic's lien sale, LOL. The car looked nice, but the moral of the story is look for one with books and records and never buy a cheap Rolls-Royce or Bentley! Lesson learned, I picked up my 1993 Bentley Brooklands from Bentley of San Francisco as a one owner new Bentley trade in. This was when the dealership was still under the original family's ownership in San Francisco.
