And, so many non-stock items, too. The wheels, the leather wrap on the steering wheel, the \"custom\" dash treatment, the fairly fresh, but far from perfect, interior. All positives. But then...\n\nThe Seller, @CitroenDS23, says the color is original to the car, but that claim bears some proof. I see no record of \"Mediterranean Blue\" in the Volvo charts of this era. Please at least post a legible close-up pic of the ID tag for the car, as the one in pic #100 in unreadable. And, if the entire paint prep and refinishing cost only $3600, that pretty much explains all the overspray, lack of masking, and wavy, dull finish of the right-side flanks, etc. No visible vertical seams on the rocker panels, or below the headlights, indicating probable rust repair, or collision damage. The gasket around the front grille is a bit off, as is the horizontal alignment of the front bumper. And, what about the rust on those door bottoms? Disappointing.\n\nI had high hopes for this car upon a quick scan, but then those began to fade upon closer inspection. A mixed blend of vinyl shades in the interior (maybe that center panel in the rear seatback is the original color, as an effort was made to preserve it). Some small tears in the seat base materials, and around the handbrake boot. \n\nI do like the overall look of the dashboard minus the fake wood veneer of the original, but exactly how was this created? Do all the instruments work, a common failure point for these cars?\n\nThe engine? A total mystery. The low-angle pics show us very little detail. What color is the bodywork inside the engine bay? I tried making sense of the many repair invoices, but gave up in frustration, because much of the important detail is either omitted, or covered up by the attached credit card receipts. From what it seems, this car was basically inoperable in the spring of this year, and some extensive work was needed to get it back on the road in a safe condition once again. Some thorough documentation of all those repairs would be very helpful if the Seller could provide that.\n\nThis car looked to have strong potential from the outset, but it needs a lot more explanation for me to take it too seriously. Some may be tempted because it does look appealing \"from 15 ft.\", or so. But, I'd guess there is still a fair amount to sort out on this car, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see some bodywork failures starting to show before too much longer.\n\nAs always with one of these old 1800's, if the internal \"bones\" of the car can be proven to be solid, and relatively rust-free, this car has some real potential, if the price can be kept realistic. It would be nice to know if the defects are largely cosmetic, though, and not mechanical and structural. It does help being able to actually read the ID plate to verify that it was originally painted in color #99. Previous references I had checked simply called this color \"Blue\". Looking further, I found another popular source of info saying that code 99 was called \"Medium Blue\". Then, I finally found a third source of paint code data in which shade 99, which was offered in 1969-70 only (apparently), was called \"Blue\", \"Medium Blue\", \"Sky Blue\", and yes, \"Mediterranean Blue\". It's somewhat of a moot point, at least with me, as I said from the outset that I really liked this color on the 1800. I preferred to know, however, that it was indeed the original color of your car, and you have graciously provided the simple proof requested. Also of note is that the interior of the car seems largely correct as well, as the historical codes indicate a light tan was installed on all the seating surfaces, armrests, and door cards, along with a brown carpeting. I did raise the issue of the different shades of tan that are found inside your car, and you might wish to comment further on that inconsistency, if possible.\r\n\r\nSo, the color itself may be resolved, but I still feel there are many questions about the attention to detail given during the bodywork/repaint of this car. The bottoms of the doors have been mentioned, and I'm not terribly impressed to hear that the \"surface rust\" was easily removed with an SOS scouring pad. Will these surfaces now be further prepped and properly refinished with new paint, or will they be left to rust again? I also noted in your extended package of additional pics that the rear lip of the trunk (mostly covered by the weather seal rubber) has rusted pretty extensively, including where the trunk latch is mounted. This is a popular place for rust to occur on these cars. Was this pic made before, or after, the body was repaired and repainted? \r\n\r\nSo, you have addressed some of the concerns I raised earlier, but you have not shed any further light on the overall mechanical condition of your car, i.e. condition of engine, transmission, brakes, cooling system, etc., etc. It would be nice to hear more detail about repair activity in those areas, or at least have some substantiation that the internals are sound (compression, leak down test numbers?). Your repair invoices indicate some serious drivability problems just months ago, and it would help to clarify whether or not those problems were eliminated, and how that was exactly done.\r\n\r\nI could say more, but I'm going to stop at this point, and let others drive the commentary forward. I will say again that I like the overall look of your car, but there is so much more to a successful, happy purchase than that. I have tried to pore through the lengthy legalese of the BaT business agreements for guidance on this issue, but have found little that is helpful or instructive. They do offer their \"Seven Rules for Commenting\", but I failed to see where my deleted comment violated any of those strictures. But, in the end, it is their business, and their decision, and that's it. However, I have a right to feel insulted and disappointed, and I do. \r\n\r\nAs to your own characterization of me, and my intentions during this auction, I suggest you \"step back and take a breath\". In no way did any of my comments impugn this Seller's honesty or integrity. With re: to the color description issue, it is a fact that notable sources of Volvo information made no mention of \"Mediterranean Blue\"... ever. My initial inquiry asked for a readable picture of the ID plate of this car, so that the OEM color could be determined with certainty. The Seller provided this picture, and after a lengthy search on the internet, I finally found a single source that recognized the term \"Mediterranean Blue\". Finding that, I immediately posted a followup comment acknowledging that fact, I admitted that I stood \"corrected\", and I went on to both thank the Seller for his cooperation, and further complimented some aspects of his car. I believe every point I raised during my first two comments was both valid and fair. Having received 21 \"thumbs up\" from other followers, I think that's a reasonable claim.\r\n\r\nAs to your personal judgment that \"You never bowed out because you weren't part of it\"? All I can say is that you don't know me, you don't know how, or why, I feel the way I do about these cars, and you should really \"check that attitude at the door\" before speaking out.
