But my experience with every stock N.A. 280 engine I have driven is that they are pretty soft. A properly built 2.4 liter Z engine will run rings around a stock injected 280 engine, just as you would expect. So using the word 'race' of 'race car' with this car doesn't really make sense.\n\nI think you can expect to have fun driving it, and since it's not in #1 condition you don't have to worry about keeping it perfect. But don't expect race car performance from the drivetrain. I also wonder whether it would pass inspection for serious competition classes...probably not. It did have some previous race history, but as a ture ground pounder competitive race car, maybe not, but for an entry level car for someone to get into and build this would be perfect, and do more modifications to make it perform better, that is if someone wants to take it that direction. He wanted something that had some performance, and something that he could enjoy at the same time, and enjoy at Cars and Coffee, Rally's and different events if he wanted to. I would say it currently wouldn't pass inspection at this point, because when he got his lic in it, it did have a full approved roll cage, but as you can see it has been modified, so it is more usable for the street use in general. I have driven the car, and it does perform pretty good for what it is actually. I would love to lower the stance on it, put some flares on it, all pretty easy to do, it is a great little car for someone to continue to enjoy and upgrade as someone would see fit, the nice thing is it, is for sure an open canvas still to take each way, or hey just drive it the way it is and have a great time. The car is actually really solid, the body is solid, trunk area, rockers, frame reals, no rust. Up around the shock mounts look really good, that is one of the nice things about having all the carpet and rear panels out of the car, no signs of any accidents, inside the front engine aprons all look good etc. When I had it up on my lift, if you watch the video, I talk about some areas on the front floors, were I think they put a little filler, were I suspect or guess there might be some pin holes, I don't really know though because that is the way we got the car. The front floors look very solid underneath overall, but I suspect there are a few issues, but you don't know until you unbolt the floor panels out. Would be pretty easy to fix if need be since everything else looks really good. I know lots of racers sometimes, on the front floors add smooth reinforcements floors so you can get in and out quickly, so you don't catch your foot on the ribs on the floor. I think it was probably 2 fold, they probably added the panels on top of the floors, because of the few small pinhole areas, and in turn gives it smooth floors, and probably helps stiffen up the body a little a the same time. With that said though, the car actually is pretty sound, and structurally in great shape.
