First off they did not make 500 of these. It was closer to 200. There was supposed to be 500 and then one of the partners made off with the funds. American Dream from Portland Or. and trailerboat engineering from San Rafael Ca tried making them after that. The five at the first of the serial # does not stand for the year. They never made them in 1955. Mine is a 1952 and serial # starts with five. If you blow up the pic of the original brochure listed in the pics it will answer most all of the less than intelligent questions that have been asked. For example it tells all about the canvass top, how much headroom, length, width,and weight of the unit. What paint combinations were available including three tone like is painted. It also recommends a 3-10 hp motor, mine has a 3hp Johnson suit case motor. For the individual that said mine wasn't correct because it didn't have the water storage tank he is wrong and needs to look at the pictures a little closer. It also still has the only original ice box that I have seen in one. I don't know if you can access past post or not but BaT had mine on their site once. It is also in Hemings ( reader galleries) or just type in 1952 Kom-Pak into your browser and it is all over the web and it will show you what they can and should look like. And for those that think these aren't worth very much I have an article showing the combination sellling at Barrett Jackson 11 yrs ago for 66K not counting buyers fee, and I turned down 70K for mine. The originals had small (maybe 6x12?) access doors about 16 inches above the floor for additional storage in the gap between the fiberglas outer shell and the wood inner shell.
