So yes, if you are looking for a fun summer car, this might be it and with 5200 miles on the clock, if that's correct, the engine is hardly broken in. My first one had more than 100k miles on the clock, when we had to part and that was not because of the miles but because of the tin worm. Back in the days and as a poor student in Northern Europe I drove my 2CV's all year around (had to, was my only car) in rain and snow. It's actually a good winter car too but some people complained about the heating, which I never did. Renault did recall a shipment of Dauphines and had them sent back to France, which I think is the event that started all of these stories. The Dauphine had been one of the best selling imports in the late 1950's, so dealers stocked up, but when sales tanked in the early 60s, Renault had way more U.S. spec cars on hand than they could sell - so they got sent back. The U.S. spec 2CVs span several model years so they must have imported them over the span of a few years, rather than bring a couple thousand all at once. And although rare, there are still enough of them to be found that far more than 100 were likely sold. \r\n\r\nEven if they had some sitting around in storage or in lots when the safety regs. of 1968 came into play - they could have still sold them.
