This is quite a special car. I don't know the seller and have never seen this car, but I'm pretty certain that this is a Plus4 Competition model. In the Plus4 range of cars there were three levels of performance; the standard Plus4 (no slouch), the Super Sport (an absolute rocket) and the Plus4 Competition. The Super Sport was pretty much an all out racer and not really docile enough for the street, The Competition was the intermediate racer for those that would drive to the track, mix it up with the boys and then drive home. That was not all that uncommon in the sixties. I remember! There were 42 Competition cars made, 27 left hand drive. The Competition came with a bunch of standard extras, this car has all of them.\r\nFirst, it has the low-line (4/4) body. But there are other books/records (i.e. \"Completely Morgan, Four-wheelers 1936 to 1968 by Ken Hill) that indicate there were another 9 cars or more produced after # 6387. This book indicates that the last Morgan Plus 4 \"COMPETITION\" was serial # 6484. This book indicates the last one was built in April of 1967. The serial number and engine number of this car on Bat do fall within the serial numbers indicated by this book. \nOne thing that most of the data I've seen seems to agree on is that only 42 were produced in total, and 11 known to still exist. Although the key word is \"KNOWN\" to exist. I'm sure there are a couple other's out there that the Morgan Registry's have not captured. I have seen the select-ride feature on several Morgan and keeping in mind that Morgan would equip any car with any options as long as the buyer was willing to pay the cost, their presence means little. As far as the engine having a hot cam, I see no information that these cars were so equipped. The Derrington manifold, yes but from what I have read that was about it. I don't see the factory installing cams in engines that they received from Triumph as that was not what they did. If the engine was sent out for modifications, likely more would have been done than just the cam. Rubber bladders were in all two seater Morgan seat bottoms, these are standard fitting. The steering wheel? Well who really knows , one bolt removes it and replaces it. I'm not sure what a competition front end is and can we see documentation? Is the car a Competition, the only way to know for sure is to send the SN. to the factory and see how it was built. Morgan made a lot of models in short runs. Engine availability often determined a model and when a new Ford engine with more displacement replaced an old, the model number changed. There is so little difference between a standard Plus 4 of the time that any owner could add the few items that make a car a Competition model and have one. By the mid-sixties racing tires (and street tires for that matter) were starting to get a lot more \"stick\" and causing the stock spindles that Morgan had been using since the 30s to break, especially under racing conditions. The Morgan factory doesn't like to change things if they don't have to. They like to be able to supply parts for their cars for as long as possible. Making changes makes this more difficult. But they pretty much had to. So they . made the spindles thicker and stronger. The spanner assortment that can be identified were positively, not part of the car's original tool kit. What I would consider quite interesting are photos of the surviving roadside emergency jacking and wheel re. & re. equipment. (jack & Jack handle, knockoff hammer) Your Dad proved to be a wonderfully sympathetic owner for half a century, I can only hope that all future owners will be as caring. It might be asking a lot of it's new owner but I would strongly suggest not making any changes to it's formidable presence and well-earned patina.
