Missions changed (Buick was a performance outlet for awhile when the GN was faster than a Corvette) and bragging rights were usurped. I once read an article (Hemmings?) that related a blowup when the Cadillac division learned that the '58 Buick Limited was one half of an inch longer than the longest Cadillac sold that year. My goal here was to accurately represent each vehicle to the best of my ability and I anticipate that the successful high bidders will be very happy with their acquisition. I met a lot of very nice people this week in person and through e-mail and phone correspondence, and I will be manning the computer all day to try to answer any last minute questions about the vehicles.\r\n\r\nThe current owner is truly a passionate carguy and a number of the vehicles that were listed here were not so easy for him to let go. This NO RESERVE auction was simply the best way to permit him to efficiently re-organize his collection so that it is no longer a huge task just to take a vehicle out of where they are stored. All of these cars deserve to be driven and enjoyed as they were intended. I hope that a number of these vehicles stay around here locally, and would love to see them again at a local cars and coffee events. They suggest: \n\nThe La Salle marque was one of General Motors\u2019 \u201cjunior division\u201d experiments of the 1920s and 1930s. Most famous, and lasting, of these was Pontiac, a lower-priced Oakland meant to bridge the gap between Oakland and Chevrolet. Viking split the difference between Pontiac and Olds, Marquette was the missing link between Oldsmobile and Buick, and La Salle was wedged in between the dearest Buick and the cheapest Cadillac.\n\nAs to the lack of side-mounts on this car - as @RobC suggests - options. My 1937 Model 50 4-door convertible has side-mounts.\n\nAs to the relationship between the suggested \"2-door Coupe\" and there being a full back seat; first, this car is a Model 50 2-door Coupe. There technically also was a Model 52 2-door Coupe. In looking through info I see the Model 50 2-door Coupe is listed as 2-4 passenger. I take that (generally) to suggest the backseat set-up was either via the option list or special order? The 2-door convertibles typically came with the bench front-seat and side-mounted twin rear opera jump seats (flip up to the sides). I am \"guessing\" those side-mounted twin rear opera jump seats were also available (possibly) in the Coupe - especially if the owner was a \"snazzy\" Middle-Division-Travelling-Salesman...(i.e. a Junior-Executive's Hot-Rod Business Coupe).\n\nMy 1937 was maroon from the factory - officially the color is \"Ricardo Maroon\". Sigh...shades and illusions of Havana in it's Heyday! GLWTA this is a sweet LaSalle.\n\nOh - and the Buick-LaSalle comparison is like apples to oranges kind-of. The body/chassis scenario is obviously shared. However....the drivetrains are quite the opposite. That is where the personal preferences come in as far as I am concerned.
