I bought the last one that appeared on Bring A Trailer a bit over a year ago. The only thing about this car that looks really out of place to me is the upholstery on the seats. Generally I've seen Lancias either with full leather seats or leather and wool broadcloth (my personal favourite). Otherwise, it looks to be a very nice, useable example. One classic issue with these cars, which I'm still fighting on the one I purchased a year ago, is drive line vibrations. The rear transaxle means that the driveline in the car turns at engine speed and is susceptible to even the slightest bit of being out of balance. The construction of these cars is a pretty stout unibody design which has a lot of advantages as far as fit and finish, making a car that isn't prone to squeaks and rattles, but is definitely prone to rust. I also personally dislike when a car has been exceedingly well detailed underneath right before a sale as it makes it difficult to truly assess the mechanical condition. Sometimes it helps to see where oil and grease are building up as it indicates leaks or potential mechanical concerns. They do get their fair share of love and there are always a few at maor driving events for the obvious reason of an amazing driving experience. One of those cars that show how fast Lancia progressed in refining them through the years in six series and all of them can have their specific charms and - sometimes significant - differences.\n\nA decade ahead of it's time from an engineering perspective, it also, of course, a sensational design. Boano at Ghia came up with this shape, though production of the series cars sent quickly to Pinin Farina as they were more efficient with the large production numbers. This shape though - together with Pinin Farina's Cisitalia 202, is what really defines everything we know about GT cars (No wonder that a modern day Bentley Continental GT looks like a blown up Aurelia B20 ...). A second overall (Only behind a Ferrari with double the cylinders) at the '51 Mille Miglia was a sensational result and instantly made them a very successful racer and the legend was born.\n\nDrive train vibrations are a common issue on those and the Flaminia, which essentially uses the same mechanical set up and lay out. But they should be rather straightforward to cure, given it is a known issue and given that all of them have been balanced multiple times. Had it on my Flaminia and $7,000.00 later (mind you, 10 years ago ...) it ran as smooth as a Swiss train. That's also a hint to the high maintenance costs of the Aurelia if you, like me, don't do the work on them yourself. Awesome engineering complexity and a lack of experts that really know how to deal with all aspects of it brings maintenance closer to vintage Ferrari territory. (good), trans redone (good, see 1st-2nd shifts in video), engine has the wonderful Megacycle cam, which works well in either 1 or 2 carb setup. Ours had the 2 carb with that cam, and pulled 2nd from a stop nicely. So they can be setup to work. The paint may be older lacquer, which would be very lovely, and worth keeping. \nConcerns? There was some discussion about a lack of power a few years back, but in the video, it seems fine and very healthy. Worth asking what the issue was (Martin Cliffe's notes are right on the mark). This is not the same car that was in the Ca. Mille some 10 years ago as I was the owner then, I think. If the car was J Heumann's at that time (my memory of it goes back a ways) I was next in line for it as we were close friends for 20 some years and he sold it to me around 2009/10. Not having seen the ad with a car showing a Ca. Mille sticker a clue might be the Pininfarina emblem on the front fender. I have only seen that on this car. As the car was seamlessly transferred from J to me I am not aware of it being advertised. The ad photo (if the same car) would probably be from before about 2004/5. \r\nI saw no evidence of past accident. \r\nWhen J acquired the car a great deal of work concentrating on the interior had been done to a very high standard as all of his work was. He did some mechanical work such as the sliding pillars. The car was quite slow when it came to me (0-60 in ca. 30 sec) and the brakes pulled strongly to the left plus a few more details to be solved. That the car was slow did not bother him as he hardly got much chance to drive it and it was not in condition to do a tour yet. Its slowness was caused by very thick head gaskets lowering the compression on both banks compensating for warped heads. This was something J inherited and passed on to me. The block was fine but I corrected the heads, made new thin gaskets, had Megacycle fix the camshaft, fixed some small issues with the valve train, and got a new exhaust system from Martin Cliffe. With its new found power (to original spec) the clutch slipped badly--that was fixed next followed by the front brakes. The B20 remains super-elegant, not particularly rare and not cheap to put right. The series IV (this one) is the one to have say some experts. But they are all nice really.
