Bikes with both of these sequences were available for purchase in the US market. So the hand stamped serial number on the subject bike corresponds to a bike that was manufactured in Japan. The possibilities Of why this frame has been hand stamped may or may not be known to the seller. Replacement frame? Somewhere along the line of ownership someone lost the title and now the bike has been stamped with a vin# from a different title? Other? I do agree with motcat about the look of the gauges and lack wear that is typical to these particular bikes as they age.
