I drive it home and started inspecting it closer and found more suspicious areas. I decided to just go ahead and strip the whole thing and do a full restoration. In the end I had replaced both front fenders, both door skins, both outside rockers, trunk lid, a 1\u2019x2\u2019 section of the left quarter panel, spare tire well and both inner front fender wells. Fixing all that and the paint was around $40,000. It wound up costing me another $50,000 for everything else. Interior, engine and suspension but in the end I think it was worth it because the car is so beautiful to look at and drives so nice. The new owner just needs to be ready to spend close to what I did to get it done right and then enjoy it. He loved the way it felt and handled. The size, visibility outward, the suspension feel and the torque from the inline 6 just draws you in. You have to remember, these cars weren\u2019t built to last. BMW, like every other company then and now, wanted you back to buy a new car in two to three years.
