The 5 cylinder is a little old school compared to the current 4 cylinder turbo and supercharged Volvo\u2019s but old school is far less expensive. I constantly get asked if it's a new model Volvo as they are so seldom seen. Volvo botched the marketing of these by targeting the GTI or Golf age group but the car was in a slightly higher price sector. The C30's series should have been marketed to empty nester's who wanted a hot, stylish, European hatch with Volvo quality, amenities, safety and did not want to own a VW that their kids would lick their chops over. \r\nThe design and especially the rear end stands out more today than ever. They don't do any one thing fantastic but they do everything very well. Don't worry about having an AT as the manual is nothing special and yeoman like. Paint quality on Volvo's of this period is outstanding. \r\nFrom 2008 to 2013 the C30 and C70 were criticized by the automotive magazines for not having more technology or touch screens. Today this is not a shortcoming and keeps repair bills down. The \"floating console\" looks fantastic and is uber easy to operate. The switch gear and good old fashioned knobs have a great tactile feel.\r\nRecently had my timing belt, etc done. Cost a whopping $500 lol. Volvo turbo's will last forever as will their drive trains. Great sight lines with no blind spots and once inside they feel vault like. Can chirp the tires in all six gears, and in 6th that happens at about 90. Pretty good on the cloverleafs, and quite competent in hectic DC Beltway traffic at 75+ with a better combination of stability, brakes, acceleration, small footprint, outward visibility, and handling than almost anything around me.
