I laughed when the cruise controlgate controversy came up. Im very thankful the GP1 has cruise control. But MINI put together the GP1 at the last minute (6 months) and its not nearly as developed as the GP2. I prefer more analog interaction...lol! The GP2 ...from what ive been told ...was developed over a 2 year period. Nothing crazy with the drivetrain...but the suspension has adjustable coil overs like a track car..and the brakes have 6 piston calipers and are larger than an S. They are from the BMW 1 series. I know they STOPPPP...as Ive been in one. I actually recommend you test drive an r53 S and a r56 S. If you can find JCW versions of those, they would be closer to the GP experience. There are only 435 GP1s and 500 GP2s imported to the US so they are rare as hens teeth. So the likelihood of test driving one would involve alot of effort.\nAs far as the differences between them, the r56 is smoother than the r53...but the r53 is the most analog you can get with modern MINIS. But the brakes on this GP2 are incredible. And with the adjustable coil overs...u are dialed in for some spirited driving. \nPersonally i prefer the supeecharger whine over the turbo whoosh sound! But since this gp2 is in your area...may be easier to grab it before it goes away!
