Mine ran fine at first . I don\u2019t recall how it manifested itself but it was a simple fix with a new coil. Champion Honda in Ohio was an excellent source for parts. This Honda is probably too nice and valuable for much serious off road work anyway. I rode mine to my local Harbor Freight. Wasn\u2019t for sale but an eventual buyer was waiting for me at the bike. It was that nice and rare. The Transalps seat was so close to the pacs that the seat would press on the pac connector and over time the connection inside would break down. If you were good with a dremel and could solder it was possible to repair them. The fix was an aftermarket holder that used the same brackets as the original holder. It lowered the pacs enough to where there was no more interference with the seat. I had a red \u201889 Transalp. Original CDIs are still going strong over 6 years into ownership. The Hawk 650 shares a butt load of engine parts so many things can be bought at your dealership.\r\n\r\nDropping all the trans alp talk, the early Africa Twins are a dream to ride and can go literally anywhere. Ive ridden through dunes and through bushes, no issues whatsover. But yes, it's 2 completely different bikes and the AT is superior in about 100% of the comparisons. I've only owned one other vehicle before that had drawn the amount of attention this one gets. I can agree and confirm that compared to modern bikes (including the new avaliable CRF ATs) the 3 ancestor RD models are in a league of their own. Each with their own character and strong points.
