The car had had a hard life before I got it. You know, run hard and put away wet, had been in at least one wreck, and it leaked - a problem on the west coast. The PO had started to improve it - installed a Hurst shifter, a tonneau cover over the back, and (illegal) dual exhaust. Slowly over the course of several years I was able to continue his journey: First went on a set of Western 15x7 (Centerline knock off) wheels and decent 60 series tires. Then a decent stereo. In perhaps the greatest stroke of luck ever, I located a set of factory bucket seats and console from a junk yard, same-color Caballero, as well as a factory tach to replace the stupid clock. Sway bar got some urethane bushings. I found adjusting the rear air shock pressure in certain ways aided handling. It wasn't that fast, ran 16.6 at Woodburn, but it was hella fun to drive, and handled much better than you'd expect. I'd always wanted to just drop in a mild 350 and 5 speed, but that was way out of my budget at the time. After 7 years I had to get something more appropriate for cities. Thanks for the memories.
