Conversion was done by using large brembo rotor, modern brembo calipers and r90x design adapter. I\u2019m attaching a video of conversion process as well in this response. The outcome is simply great. Terrific feel on brake lever and superb stopping power. I\u2019m extremely satisfied with this conversion. It is no secret that one of the weakest points of prior '81 airheads were Ate brakes. 900 and 1000cc models had dual discs and BMW moved from 38 to 40mm in order to solve weak braking performance issues. Finally, they switched to dual pot Brembo that was nice improvement compared to Ate but still not comparable to modern brakes that this bike is equipped with. Just as an illustration, after fitting new brakes, I went for a short ride to try them out. Cruising at 55mph traffic lights started changing from green to yellow and red and I decided to come to a stop. Having my weak Ate brakes on my mind, I grabbed the lever questioning if I'll make it to a stop before intersection. However, these modern brakes got me to a stop almost 100 yards before intersection. As other cars were approaching me they gave me questionable look and were checking if everything is OK. That's the difference between Ate and these brakes. BTW, Ate brakes were fully rebuilt with new rotor, pads and properly adjusted. If anyone wants to retrofit them, and I don't know why anyone would want that, I still have all the necessary parts.
