This motor appears to have a dipstick (the 4-cylinders do not), so you can easily monitor consumption. \r\n\r\nAs motors have miles added to them, it is not unusual for oil consumption to increase. The tan leather in her car shows some fine cracking despite my efforts to care for them. But, typical Volvo seat comfort as in great. Engine power is good. We purchased this car at 29,000 miles in 2019. I knew about the oil consumption issue due to a different oil control ring setup. There's a video on the internet showing gummed up rings in an engine following factory oil change interval. This engine consumes 1/2 qt every 4000 miles and that is when I change the oil. I used Mobil1 5w30 A5/B5 in the beginning and went up in viscosity over time. Presently using Mobil1 0W40 and oil consumption is exactly the same. The motor is a bit quieter and smoother with the 0W40 so that is what I have continued. The only problem we have had is a leaking AC evaporator requiring replacement. My local shop did that for $1000. I do ATF change annually. The extended warranty was the settlement of a class action suit on the matter. In my opinion, this is a big enough deal that it should be a disclosure item with 3 basic facts: 1) engine is or is not in the affected class; 2) if in the affected class, the car did or did not have the oil consumption test; 3) if it did have the test, what were the results and any subsequent mitigation efforts. This is the information I would expect a seller to lead with. Your turnaround time from my query was very prompt and early enough in the auction as to not be a last minute surprise to bidders. \r\n\r\nA shopper also has due diligence responsibilities. The carfax entry says \"oil consumption test performed\". That alone should raise a flag, maybe not a red flag, but indicates a deeper dive on the matter is warranted. \r\n\r\nIt's obvious this car has had meticulous and timely services performed by a dealer. That is a huge plus. If I were in the market for this model (I just sold my 2016 Magic Blue XC70 T5 3 months ago and bought a newer V60CC), I would not hesitate to pursue this auction. Our wagon gets 25 mpg city if one believes the onboard computer. I think that is quite good considering the 250 hp motor, AWD and curb weight of 3950 lbs. 2. This motor made a very loud rattling/ fluttering noise starting 1.5 years ago. Noise occurred at startup, quck acceleration and up hill climbs. Took it to my local shop with experienced owners and techs. Didn't know what the sound was!! Took it to volvo dealership. Tech thought it was the serpentine belt tensioner and said it had rust on it. Well the tensioner was relatively new and had no rust. I replaced that part myself since these tensioners can be problematic. No change in noise. I also replaced the brake booster vacuum pump since it was close to the most intense sound location. Again, I replaced a perfectly good part. Then, decided to put in premium rather than regular gas, and that solved the noise (pinging). I specifically had asked both shops about detonation and both said no.
