I did a full service on mine when it arrived from Japan including the timing belt service, waterpump, Valve cover gaskets, transmission service and an AC service. After 7000km's all it has needed is a coolant temp sensor and a lot of fuel! \r\n\r\nThe torque these monster's produce is amazing with peak at 1900 RPM! Just touch the pedal and it is gone. I was a bit hesitant about the Auto transmission but Audi has done a good job programming it to work with this engine. I was surprised at how smooth and quick the shifts were. Typically these go 150k before needing service. The hotter the climate the shorter the lifespan. As to cost? I dont feel these are expensive at all. Even if your paying a good indy shop that knows the 4.2 this is not a engine out procedure as some would like you to believe. 3-4hrs per side and do the timing belt while your in there. There are several ways to diagnose this potential problem including a vag com reading of the cam correlation, noise on cold start of a clatter and a visual inspection. All three pass on this particular RS6 and it came from a cool climate in Japan. I would have no worries of the chain tensioners for this RS6 Avant. Honestly, if you have a good indy that knows the RS6 sedan these are very straight forward to service and maintain. I have owned 7 of these things over the years and I will always have one or two in my personal fleet. Heck, I still have the first RS6 sedan I bought 12yrs ago and it just turned 50k. It originated in Japan like this car. Someone else mentioned that these will not be available to import to the US for another 10 years, but Canada has a 15 year rule. Expensive and a pita to federalize, so I chose the Canada route and it will only spend 6 months in the US. Extremely rare car in NA and head-turner to Audi enthusiasts. Its an awesome car and new owner should certainly put the Euro spec seats back in, they are a unique upgrade. \r\nOn the discussion of timing chain tensioners and guides, my car has 68K miles and it had the timing belt done 35K ago in Japan.
