The 200 isn\u2019t a lot more powerful than the 190 but the engine is improved with the same crank/main bearing design as the 220/240 series. I love these cars, they are a little like driving a locomotive. Slow to accelerate, but the 4 speed helps a lot....and at speed they are not bad. I bought my 190 as a worn out example with a bad transmission. I installed a used junkyard trans and drove it (broken rings and all) for 3 years in Southern California until I was stationed in Germany. I sold the car......big mistake. The body was pristine and I could have restored the mechanicals in Germany very inexpensively. I would drive the car home to Spokane at Christmas time to see my folks. The first year, I learned not to shut it down in the cold because it wouldn\u2019t restart (low compression from broken rings).........so we would park it in my dad\u2019s shop until I got ready to return when we would start it up and not shut it down until we got back into the warm in southern cal where we never had a problem with it. That was a nice car, and we sold it a few years ago for $11,000 on Craigslist, before I discovered BaT. It would surely have brought $15k-$18k on this forum. It was a nice one. Do you really think that a 350 Cummins 855 has the same horsepower of a 350 HP small block Chevy? there are so many ways to measure horsepower that it is at best a comparative number used between engines of the same brand......and not always reliable then. These Mercedes Diesels were commonly used as refer motors for refrigerated semi trailers. The next generation engines that were used for the exact same job were Japanese Diesels rated at over 100 HP.......but were no stronger than the Mercedes rated at 54 HP. My 350 HP semi engines move 80,000 lbs at 70 MPH on a 3% grade effortlessly...........try that with even a 400 HP big block gas engine. Mercedes has always been very conservative with HP ratings unlike other companies trying to sell there products as hot rods. Porsches and a host of BMW's as well as a bunch of other Euro-trash yes - but nothing with the three pointed star on it. So although I was a pretty confirmed BMW nut I thought I'd dip my toe in Benzworld a little and bought a 1965 200D for $150 back in 1991 (figuring if I didn't like it I wouldn't be out too much). I was thoroughly impressed with the car - although it was slow the build quality and attention to small details on those old fin bodies was amazing. I shortly bought a 1966 230S and eventually a 190D. I still have very fond memories of cruising in that old 200D - a great car if you're not in a particular hurry.
