On the rare occasion Jack would begin the process early she\u2019d quickly be alerted by the blaring sound of the \u2018Stayin\u2019 Alive\u2019 8-track slowly slid in to the woodgrain dash.\r\n\r\nOnce, early on, she had ventured over and asked Jack about the Light Jade coupe in hopes of capturing his attention. The only thing she captured was the business end of the garden hose he was gripping. She was, after all, only fourteen and a half, and no more worthy of Jack\u2019s attention than the 4-H Club.\r\n\r\nSo she watched from afar, alone in her room, as he would walk out of the house in nothing but a pair of cut-off Levi\u2019s and soap down the car week after week.\r\n\r\nBy the time he was Windexing the windows she was wondering about the womanly workings of topics that went far beyond carnauba wax. Jack, being older and wiser, was not ignorant of the random flutterings from the curtains across the street. In the summer months he would occasionally spray himself down with the hose, shaking the long mop of dirty blond hair to cool off, always on the passenger side of the long, low slung coupe so the view from across the street would not be obstructed.\r\n\r\nAnd so it went, all through his sophomore and junior year. The spring of \u201981, just a month before graduation, he took an extra long time detailing the LTD II. Then be broke out the Turtle Wax, putting on a show of buffing the trunk that even made Rosemary blush. Enough so that she put on the tightest t-shirt she could find, actually one that belonged to her little brother, and went outside to \u2018check the mail\u2019.\r\n\r\nKnowing she had just turned seventeen (the legal age in the Lone Star State), the male she really had gone out to check sauntered over to the end of her drive way, wringing out the suede chamois as he crossed the street.\r\n\r\nAwkward niceties were exchanged.\r\n\r\nThen arrangements were made for him to pick her up later that evening for a trip to the Dairy Twin for a treat, followed by a long drive through the backroads of Fort Stockton.\r\n\r\nThe timing on that may be wrong. He retired a couple years later and had to buy his own car. He ditched Ford and bought a new '81 Sedan deVille with the hideous V-8-6-4 engine. The Cadillac was super comfortable, but nothing but trouble. He finally got fed up and traded it in for a new '85 Sedan deVille with the wheezy and trouble-prone HT4100 iron over aluminum engine! But the mechanical and paint problems drove me to sell it. When I would take a right turn the car would just shut off, brand new car. It took over 6 months to diagnose a bad computer. Then the paint on the hood started peeling off. As a 20 year old guy I was devastated. I took it to the Ford dealer and they refused to do anything. I took the one year old car and traded it in on a Subaru Brat (didn\u2019t keep it long either). I saw the Ford a year later and all the paint on the hood had come off. Since then the only American made cars I have bought have been two Vettes (quality control was not great on them either). The funny thing was I ordered the \u201cStarsky and Hutch\u201d model of the Ltd II, but Ford screwed the order up and I wound up taking the beautiful midnight blue one they had on the lot.\r\n\r\nThis car looks great.
