Good Times indeed! \r\nA buyer who's willing to keep this stored inside and dry, and only take it out on dry warm lazy days could enjoy this one for a long time. \r\nSerious buyers should note that, despite the oohs and aahs, it's not a concourse restoration, and not to expect factory perfection, but for an original '66 it's very very nice. The rear bumper seems to have some funkiness to it on the left side, and over the years the car has had some nicely done paintwork here and there judging by a couple of angles in photos. I'd want to get a better photo of the bottom of the spare tire well, inside and out, photo 177 suggests that area might be a bit rusty, ( common, my 280 has a dent down there) 169/168 floor pans inboard of the rockers possible rust through or heavy surface ? needs clear shots of that.\r\n206/203, 188/187 all the fender lips on these older cars ( especially lower down close to the spots the tires like to kick stones to), need to be looked at closely to gauge what partial restoration you'll be looking at depending on how finicky you are. The gentleman working on the vehicle put me in touch with the owner of the vehicle and she had let me know it was her father\u2019s car and he had just passed away and she was getting ready to sell she also told me it was a one owner and he bragged about his or original paint original survivor vehicle often while always kept in a climate control garage per the owners daughter . I have the original window sticker with the original bill of sale from June of 1966 business card of the Mercedes Benz dealership it came from in Schenectady New York with the transferable registration which makes this vehicle A one Owner vehicle. . In 1966 New York State did not have titles. All they had were transferable registrations and that\u2019s how you are buying the vehicle. You will get the original registration with the bill of sale along with the business card and receipt of this vehicle being bought new and still in the same owner\u2019s name since 1966. Rust, rust and more rust. And worn out king pins.\r\n\r\nWe would travel allover western europa and never doubted their reliability.\r\nI had only one 200D which i bought with an engine knock and sure enough, the engine blew out after a short while due to crankshaft bearing issues. I believe one of the previous owners forgot that the engine requires oil.\r\nUsually the engine was indestructible and it was the default power plant for the taxicab industry. 500,000 km was not unheard of and rather the norm unless rust got the car first (and preventing it from passing the very strict T\u00dcV roadworthiness inspection).\r\n\r\nYes, that startup is a bit rough and not normal. It would be knocking more loudly, like a gas engine knocking, when cold but in the video it doesn\u2019t sound right.\r\nThe engine is fairly sensitive regarding valve lash out of spec. I would check that first. Valve lash check and adjustment is required every 3500 miles but it is an easy procedure.\r\n\r\nGetting from 0-60 mph requires something like a minute or so. Still, i wouldn\u2019t have any qualms using it everyday transportation. \r\nThe fuel economy is incredible, around 32-35 mpg.\r\n The 190d with automatic transmission was much slower. The 200D is a rocket in comparison.\r\nOnce I had a W110 with a transplanted 300D 5 cylinder engine, that was a great combination.\r\n\r\nToo bad Mercedes had that speedometer only for those few years. Me too, i remember a very similar car, possibly the exact same color, possibly the very 1st old Mercedes i'd bothered to look at and consider, a bunch of years ago, parked outside a heli ski lodge in late Spring.. ( snow basically gone on the roads .. ) It was in great but not pristine shape, many many Germans would ski from this lodge, and the car really had me looking. It probably wouldn't be for me, as i like too much to drive fast..
