Both of our cars received a fair amount of attention because they stood out even among that much bling. A Europa Twin Cam or Special is an exotic classic car steal. A Dino 246 GT a few weeks ago sold for $380,000. End result was a surprisingly tractable motor that pulls to 7000 rpm and doesn't overheat in traffic. The twincam is typically the most reliable part of the Europa. The best maintenance is to drive it regularly.\r\n\r\nOther tips:\r\n- use blue loctite on the lugnuts. Mine had the Stromberg set-up and went fine. These are momentum cars. Just get them up to speed and modulate the gas through the turns. These cars handle like nothing else out there. It takes a while to get used to working on it, but everything for the most part is really straightforward. And between RD Enterprises and Bean, parts are just a phone call away. Whomever buys this car is going to have so much fun with it. If I did not also have my 911, I would have held on to the Europa. I had a 74 TCS from new. With my size 12 feet sneakers, I would just place my right foot on both gas and brake and just twist my ankle left and right -- never had such a perfect setup on any car. Never any interference with the clutch. This car caught my eye and was close enough to go see in person. Small world in that the owner probably was the one driving that Europa years ago. This car is likely about as turn key as you can get for a Europa. The seller is extremely knowledgeable and has addressed most if not all of the inherent issues, such the hubs and wheel bearings, that plague these cars and keep them off the road. This is not a show car, it is a fully sorted enthusiast built gem. After seeing this car, I am distinctly aware of two things; if I was ever to buy a Europa, this is the one I should buy, but the compromises in utility and comfort that one has to make for this pure a driving experience are no longer acceptable to me so a vintage Lotus will ultimately be a car I admire from afar... No buttons for driving style or traction. No CPU to correct human error or numb the driving experience. It is more akin to flying a small old fighter jet where it is you snugly fit with your hands on the yoke staring at all those wonderful analog gauges. Its diminutive size is what makes the driving a Europa so intuitive. Your seat is inches off the ground and you are a flick of your wrist away from a sharp left or right turn. You are more aware of the road then you could ever possibly be in a modern car. The more you drive a Europa, the better the driver you become. Yes ingress and egress is challenging for any human being, any size. But so is getting into any race car. Chapman originally designed the Europa in the competition to get Ford a win at Lemans. His design came in second and inevitably, Ford chose the Lola Mk 6 to eventually become the GT40 (and later Shelby's input). I knew I had to have one, and immediately traded my 73 Gran Sport Stage 1 Buick for the last 4 speed (less expensive than the JPS I really wanted) car the dealer in NY had. I was just 22 at the time, and thought I could drive the car through the winter to work in Northern NJ...and I did. But not without a few difficulties in the snow. Anyway, I eventually sold it and moved up to a 911 I could drive year round, and with a bit more reliability! Still, I have always loved Europas, and later also owned two Banks 47R cars which were fantastic. I don't recall having a problem with my size 10.5 dress shoes in the pedal box of the 74 TC, but perhaps that was because I was so in love with the car and determined to overcome any obstacles! Great car, and would love to have it. But I have an Alfa 4C now, which is close enough to keep me content when it comes to (relatively) lightweight cars that handle the mountain roads around here well.
