I think my '53 Chevy pick-up had crown headed/domed bolts (2) on the rear fender support, not riveted. Someone over-did the fasteners/rivets on this truck & actually bent the metal inward, easily done. There is a name for those bolts, slips my memory, haven't used them for a long time. A lotta' torque in a small package from those LS engines, LS-3 a good all around choice. Only one thing I see wrong with the truck & it's already been addressed. The builder of the kit said that the one draw back that he didn't fix was the rear end is ever so slightly pushed back in the rear fender. Of course it can be corrected by changing the location of the rear end mounts (or pushing the bed back creating a large gap between the cab), but that did not seem like a worthwhile thing to do at the time. Visually I agree it's slightly strange, but mechanically there has not been any issues as the wheel and fender never have come in contact. I did a V-8 install years ago on a 54 GMC, but used the original frame. But to fix your truck, you either move the rear-end forward, which would mean moving shock towers and cutting down the driveshaft if there isn't enough room between the transmission and driveshaft yoke?? Or move the bed back as you suggested, therefore creating a gap too wide between the cab and bed... Or cut the frame, which again would also involve cutting down the driveshaft.
