This was the non-turbo, FWD model one notch below the VR4. While I loved the car for the first 5-7 years, after that I began to learn about Mitsubishi\u2019s design and after-sale support.\r\n\r\nI\u2019m guessing this car originally had the electronically controlled suspension. I finally gave up on that when I learned a new set of rear shocks would cost about $2,300. It was a cool system, while it worked.\r\n\r\nThe transmission finally grenaded, at 56,000 miles, just under the warranty cutoff. It was ready to blow again at 120,000 miles when I traded it in on a Mazda 6. One must hope the VR4 trans is not the same as the non-boosted GSR.\r\n\r\nHaving shared all that, the VR4 is the car I wish I\u2019d had. The VR-4 calls to me because I like sleepers, and it is a hell of a car besides. And local. The E39 was a steal at the price and it looked to be as well done as the VR-4. I have owned a bunch of E39 cars and loved them. I owned a Mitsubishi Mirage Turbo and loved that car as well. There are a couple of happy new owners that will really take delight in their new cars.
