It is basically a 1939 and as such has primitive technology like as rod actuated drum brakes and leaf springs both front and rear. The frame is made of such thin metal and so prone to rust when I had the body off my first \u201848 MK IV 1.5 l. four door the frame bent in half when I lifted it from the front. I put that project on hold and bought the same model in good condition which I used as a daily driver for 2 \u00bd years (1985-7). Those poor brakes combined with tall narrow tires were not up to modern traffic so I parked it before disaster happened. When I eventually got back to the first car I had no interest in making it original -I wanted disc brakes on a modern suspension with a drive train I could maintain from the local parts store. I used a Mustang II as the donor car. It still has the gorgeous lines and elegant interior and generates so much interest when I use it as my daily driver every outing takes twice as long. I then welded in a 2 X 4 X 1/4\" steel frame which picked up both ends of the rear springs. I cut off the front suspension and moved it 25\" forward on the new frame. All the running gear, brakes and heater from the \"stang stayed as the were. I had to cut 3\" off the firewall of the Jag but otherwise everything else sat down perfectly on the new base. I did add 10\" to the hood to match the dimensions of the 3.5 L car rather than the short nose of the 1.5 L.
