They sold really well at our dealership, so we had several on the lot. Unfortunately, we got hit with a huge hailstorm and suffered well over 100 damaged cars. The PDR guys pitched tents behind the dealership, literally working day and night, pulling dents out of the fleet. You could buy one for a small discount post-repair, or take it as-is for a deep discount. \r\n\r\nOne of our more *ahem* enterprising salesmen decided to take advantage. He coerced a buyer to take the car as-is, and then he promised the client that he could get the repairs made at half the cost through some buddies of his. \r\n\r\nA week or two later, I\u2019m standing in the showroom and that same QX4 comes flying HOT back onto the lot, locks up the brakes and slides to stop at the entrance. Whoever repaired the vehicle had filled each divot with bondo, hit each spot quickly with a random orbit sander, then rattle-canned the result. No lie- on a brand-new car. A black one at that. Looked like tone-on-tone Dalmatian. \r\n\r\nWhat was even more surprising was the driver, who turned out to be a policeman! He stormed into the managers office and demanded the dealership fix it. Our unflappable manager sent the cop and the salesman packing. That was a crazy day. \r\n\r\nAll that being said, these are great trucks! We preach the same gospel. These are super highly underrated trucks. Toyotas get all the attention but I prefer the Nissan/infiniti trucks of this era. The throttle response on these and quick steering makes them very lively daily drivers. I been using it for the past year and it never skipped a beat. I am amazed at the condition of this unit, if you look at engine bay the original bolts still have the original gold color coating even with the miles driven. There is basically no wear in the interior switch gear for a 20 year old vehicle. I have always gotten a kick out of reading stories about the cars posted by those who remembered them new, drove them new, drove them used, had family members who had them new, or grew up driving in them.\n\nI guess I shouldn't be surprised that as time has gone on, I am now old enough to remember some cars posted here in-period. Man, time is an S.O.B...\n\nThis was THE first SUV my family ever had. Mom's was silver but the same interior minus the back seat entertainment center. It replaced two consecutive leased Saab 9000s. We had always been a two-sedan family, mom didn't want a minivan and never thought about wagons and after being disappointed by the new 9-5 after a visit to Saab of Greenwich, decided a change was in order. \n\nI have the distinct memory of my mother picking my brother and me up from Elementary school, turning the corner where she usually parked her Saab, and seeing this. I was extremely excited. Remember, this came out when parking lots, streets, and driveways were not littered with SUVs. A luxury one was even somewhat of a novelty! Those tan leather seats and all that distinct faux woodgrain were the height of sophistication! She accelerated hard out of the parking spot that first day to show how much \"pep\" (as she called it) this SUV had before exclaiming \"whoops, I shouldn't do this before we hit 500 miles.\" Throughout the three years we had it, it was solid, reliable, and comfortable.\n\nWhen the lease ended, she returned it to the dealership without much fanfare. She upsized to a GX470 for reasons unknown (which I reminisced about not too long ago in an auction for one of those) before settling in to a series of RX Hybrids. I remember when I got my license, I lamented that she had not kept the QX4 for me. While not exactly plentiful when new, I can't remember the last time I saw one of these. This one seems to be in remarkable condition, especially considering the mileage.\n\nI'll be watching this for nostalgia purposes.
