A couple of details and questions: \r\nI didn't see the displacement of the engine listed, but since it's from a Morris Marina, I'm assuming it's the BMC 1275cc variant, the last of the series., and it appears to be so. These engines differ from the earlier 948 and 1098 versions in that side covers were deleted, one effect being a nasty tendency for the crankcase to pressurize. Since there is no rear main seal (scroll only), the condition of the scroll components is important, as is the crankcase ventilation system. Lip seal conversions have limited success (some are a disaster), as a pressurized crankcase can push oil past.\r\nThis car has a variant on the crankcase ventilation system that I'm not familiar with. While it appears to provide reflow for crankcase gases, it does not seem to connect to the intake manifold or carburetors, as either of the two original systems did. Therefore, I don't see how it could provide needed vacuum to make the scroll effective. You drove it 200 miles. How much did it leak out of the rear main?\r\nAlso, it appears not to have a heater? Probably not much of an issue. I like the hot water to the intake manifold, as my HS2s take forever to get up to temperature on a cold day. Brake booster is nice too. ITS' A MUMFORD LINK.\r\n\r\nWatts Link setups have a single bell crank mounted at the center of the axle, which allows the lateral links attached to the chassis to move with the axle, while keeping the rear axle located laterally. The roll center is usually determined by the location of the bell crank on the axle. \r\n\r\nAs you can see, this is NOT what we are seeing on this Spridget. \r\n\r\nThe Sprigets pictured suspension has two linked bell cranks (one for each lateral link) attached to the chassis, with the lateral links attached to the axle. \r\nIt is called a \"Mumford Link\". \r\nI have seen this setup on a couple of Fox Mustangs (?), and it was standard rear suspension on the High Tech Automotive Superformance 7, which had a short production run. \r\nIf you like complexity, the Mumford is your favorite solution. It does allow the adjustment of the rear suspension roll center to a lower point if that is desired, as the center pivot is attached to the chassis, while the lateral links are attached to the axle. \r\nLowering the roll center may increase rear grip, if that is what you think your setup needs. \r\nI imagine that this setup likely improved rear grip at the expense of body roll. How well the setup works depends on how the car drives.
