This car appears to be a good basis to make into a perfect car. I own a 1985 quattroporte with a manual so i know about the cost of things. You can get alot of parts from MIE but as it is a maserati, parts can be expensive. Most cosmetic parts you have to buy second hand. Luckily for the Americans there are some part cars left in the US so parts are not extremely hard to find and prices are not like the Ferrari 400 (1k for a door). Keep in mind that tires are \u20ac400 a piece for the original michelin and \u20ac250 for knockoff pirelli's. This car has no cracks in the windows so that is a good thing, they are really hard to find and will cost you \u20ac1000-\u20ac2000 for a front or rear window. They tend to crack when you want to remove them and that is not fun to have. Engines are bulletproof if the cooling is correct. If you buy one make sure you check that the fans come on and your waterpump is working correctly (They are expensive but can be restored, \u20ac500 for a waterpump is not crazy) The only real issue wich most owners with an old maserati in general have (They all use the same engine but some have a bit more power, Bora, Indy, Khamsin...) is the extreme difficulty wich the carbs are tuned. The weber 42 dncf double carbs don't have a vacuum port so tuning is a real specialist job. I have seen quite a few old maserati's that run like crap and the mechanic tell them \"that is how they are supposed to run, its and old car\". But when buying an old maserati and especially a QP3 you have to refurbish the carbs because they tend to leak fuel when the diagrams from the accelerators aren't replaced and that can lead to fire... Also the rear brakes are hard to replace because they have the same construction as the jaguar xj. My mechanic at the time told me it was static electricity... which seems a little dubious to me, but the fact remains that the noise went away once the belts were changed and it hasn't come back!\r\n\r\nI'd think though that would be the least of your worries with a car like this that's sat around for such a long time. But then again, it's all just made up of mechanical systems which are eminently repairable, if expensive. Visually what I see is the belt starts riding up on the pulley and then snaps back in place making that noise. I also think that the pitch on the belts that fit this car are a little different than standard V belts. Somebody can check me on that one. I spray a little belt conditioner on it once in a while and it quiets down for quite some time. I've always threatened to align the pulleys but never got around to it. And alas, I\u2019ve found a younger person that really wants my car and has the shop and the means and the energy to bring it back to its former glory!
