The California GS was built off the base Special 2 door thin pillar couple 3307, the 340/4 optional engine was included with the California GS and was the only engine available. As seen on the vin tag it is 3307 and under the hood tag is 3407 signifying the V8 option. All cars came with a black vinyl top. All California GS's also had the standard black air cleaner. The GS 340 was only available as a 2 door hardtop built on the 3417 model and also had the 340/4 but with dual exhaust and special chrome air cleaner. So what was said below as they were basically a GS340 that was sold in other areas is BS, totally different cars, totally different model numbers. The W1 GS ornamentation trim package was developed for the build of the California GS package but you could have and only available on 3307 model but some people took notice and actually ordered base Specials with the W1 package which gave them fake GS's. It would have been possible to get a base Special 2 door sedan, with a V6 no options at all but the W1 and had a GS look a like. The recessed rear window is one of my favorites. It's surprising to see the complete A.I.R. system that was required for CA cars starting in 1966. One thing I remember about my 67 California GS was that the \"California\" script seemed to be cut or stamped out of heavy gauge metal (aluminum?), very different than the California scripts from the factory for 1968 - 69. They look correct on this car. Although it's pretty difficult to find behind the smog pump and power steering bracket, the engine serial number would be significant if it's a numbers matching block.
