Pontiac came out with the 'Wide Track' campaign around 1960, they felt that `didn't really stand out so much against other cars in sales brochures, ads, etc. None other than John DeLorean was in charge of marketing and he hired an automotive artist, Art Fitzgerald to make the cars look low and wide and boy, did he ever. Art was a master with cars but not so much the backgrounds so he arranged for a long time artist friend, Van Kaufman to do them so they were actually the work of two men. Backgrounds chosen were alway exotic or beautiful or both and they were frequently in European setting. Brings a smile when you see an illustration of a Bonneville or GP on a medieval street scene somewhere on The Continent.
