I's still my favorite car I've ever had...such a wonderful balance of automotive virtues. I never modified mine beyond some BBS RS wheels because I had the Audi CPO 100k warranty, but it was still fun as hell in stock form. I pegged the 144mph limiter twice, and the car was nowhere near done...just effortless speed. In that era, the only sedan you couldn't embarrass stock was an M5, and you could embarrass many so-called \"sports cars\".\r\n\r\nThe S4 Quattros are notoriously neutral handlers and forgiving at the limit, which lent to lots of fun and very few \"oh sh!t\" moments. My parents had a summer home in the NC mountains, and i would deliberately wait until after dark to make the trip to increase the chances of no traffic on the ascent so I could wind the car out. \r\n\r\nThe Avants are the purest callback to the original RS4, and a great Q ship/stealth bomber, even in Imola. I was reticent about buying the Tiptronic in mine, but I very quickly did not regret it, especially in daily drive/traffic. The original S4 tip had buttons on the back of the steering wheel, not paddles, so this added RS6 wheel should be nice upgrade. These cars were pretty hard on front end components like tie rods, etc. I also might be a bit concerned about so much power being run though it with a full Stage 3 upgrade, but I have a feeling the risk/reward payoff is going to be pretty big here. Rockers look great, lines look great, etc. I know what you're thinking...it's a Minnesota car. How does it not have rust? The guys at Imola Motorsports said the same thing during the PPI. What we discovered is that the heater didn't work, due to a clogged heater core. When I got a hold of the car, first thing I did was to flush the core to see if I could save it that way, or if it needed to be replaced (a much bigger deal...that's a nasty job). The amount of crud that came out of the core was truly something to behold, and the heater has worked fantastically every since. Of course, I've got no way to verify this, but the story I've told myself is that clogged heater core probably saved the car from the salt. I cannot imagine driving a car in a Minnesota winter without heat. I bet the car got parked during the cold weather months. That would also explain the low miles. Again, no way to verify, but it does make a decent amount of sense. Regarding your other question about the tail shaft seal, it's not a transmission out job. The output flange comes out pretty easily. And if running about 18# of boost, any numbers in the 400hp level are at the crank, not at the wheels.
