Patina is the buzz word of the day in classic cars and this little guy has it. With the exception of the brand new carpet kit, it is all original down to the paint. As stated in the listing, the left front fender was involved in a fender \r\nbender back in 1971 and the repairs are documented in the incredibly thorough (almost anal!) records the second owner kept. He bought the car in 1965 and kept very detailed records including his initial shopping experience between his 2 choices of a Midget or Spitfire. (Midget wins again! :)\r\nShown in the pictures is some surface rust on the inner floors from when I removed the original, crumbling rubber matting. That was cleaned up, treated with a rust inhibitor before the new carpet kit was installed. At the same time I scrubbed the existing/original panel kit and replaced the chrome panel screws and cup washers. \r\nI knew the \"underside shots\" comment would be coming and will be taking some of those this weekend as soon as I can get it on the lift.\r\n Note the missing horn center button in some of the photos. I was unable to find it at the time of the photos, but have subsequently found and installed it as can be seen in one of the later pictures.\r\nEverything works, car runs great. My son and I participated in the 2016 Americas British Reliability Run, him in this Midget and me in my similar 1962 Sprite. It was a roughly 600 mile weekend and things went very well, no issues. Perfect car for the back roads as many of you already know. This car has been around, as it was also in attendance at the very first All MG Council MG'96 out in Indianapolis, Indiana where along with 1200 other MG's it had the privilege of driving the INDY 500 track. The straight cut first gear will whine a bit even if perfect but shouldn't scream or knock. Also, and this goes back at least 30 years for me when I worked on these on a regular basis (so memory is fading a bit...), but I believe the smooth case box had syncros made onto the gears like a Moss box. Replacing would then depend on being able to buy new gears which I am guessing these days isn't as easy as it used to be so curious as to condition.\n\nOne small observation as well - in the the shot showing the new front springs it appears that the king pin dust covers were left off of the drivers side when rebuilding.
