He had a ride in a Helios Blue with Zebra interior in the period, and the experience stayed with him. One weekend I read in the news that the Nebraska SCCA region was holding a solo rally on a nearby frozen reservoir. The State Game and Parks Commission had measured the ice at more than 6\" and allowed the event with only one car on the frozen lake at a time. I showed up to the event with my snowmobile helmet and paid my registration. In ten degree temperatures with deep snow over the course, a large turnout of every snow buggy and lifted SUV had gathered. The quattro smoked the field by a time margin for the half mile course. I kept the lead in SCCA points until spring when normal solo events could be held. Because the event was held on a slow news Sunday (there are a lot of winter slow news Sundays in Nebraska) a local TV crew had filmed the event for the evening news. My winning run made the news. My insurance agent called me up on Monday morning and congratulated me on the event and my TV appearance.
