Came out one was a bit softer than the other. Talked to an old mechanic who had worked primarily on old Italian and German cars (no Healey experience, however), and he said \"sure, on many lighter cars the driver side often had springs a bit stiffer then the other side\". The car was competitively driven in the 1950s by Austin\u2019s North American Competition Manager, Roy Jackson-Moore, and following my acquisition in 1994, it underwent a frame-up restoration (photo documented) which included a repaint in Lobelia racing blue and Healey white as well as a photo documented rebuild of the engine, drive line, suspension and body. \r\n\r\nFollowing the completion of the restoration in 2002, the car received multiple concours awards (Including Quail, Monterey, Palo Alto, Hillsborough, Park City, Asheville and the Autumn Classic Concours) in addition to special recognition from the car\u2019s body designer, Gerry Coker, and has been featured on five Austin-Healey magazine covers, making it a most recognized 100M worldwide. \r\n\r\nIn addition, this 100M has been owned by myself, (the founder of the Worldwide 100M Le Mans Registry) for two and one half decades and used as my personal car. It has also served as a correct original example used for comparison with 400 cars being registered. Powered by a 2,660cc inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, it is equipped with a louvered bonnet with a correct leather tie-down strap, Lucas driving lights, an adjustable-rake windshield, tonneau cover, removable side curtains, blue leather upholstery, and white-finished 15\u201d knock-off wire wheels. \r\n\r\nA second refurbishment completed in 2023 included servicing of the brakes, a rebuild of the dual SU carburetors, and replacement of the shocks, tires, batteries, water pump, and fuel pump. This 100M is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate of manufacture, a confirmed 100M Le Mans Worldwide Registry Gold certificate of membership, manufacturer\u2019s literature, a service manual, personal correspondence with body designer Gerry Coker, race driver Roy Jackson-Moore, Brian Healey and Roger Menadue. Service records, frame off restoration photos, and a clean California title in the seller\u2019s name. This car is the only 100M to have a hard-back book published on its history and provenance. I can provide a link to preview this.\r\n\r\nFinished from the factory in Healey Blue and Ivory White, the car underwent a frame-off restoration completed in 2002 that consisted of the removal of the body, engine and drive line from the frame and a repaint following detailed body and frame preparation. The body features the owner's red pinstriping tape and 100M Le Mans Registry badging (removable) and additional exterior features include a louvered bonnet with a correct leather tie-down strap, chrome bumpers with overriders, driving lights, polished rare, aluminum period valve cover, 140 MPH speedometer, and an adjustable-rake windshield as well as a blue convertible top with removable side curtains and a blue tonneau cover. Body stamps and tags are presented in the BaT photo gallery. \r\n\r\nWhite-finished 15\u201d wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-off hubs and mounted with new, classic, 165 series Michelin XZX tires that were fitted in May 2023. A full-size new spare is housed in the trunk with tool kit and jack. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes, and the car is further equipped with independent front suspension. Le Mans Sway bar is in plce and Le Mans heavy duty shocks were replaced and the brakes were serviced in August 2023.\r\n\r\nThe cockpit features bucket seats upholstered in blue leather with white piping along with 100M Le Mans Registry patches on the door panels and a plaque affixed to the dashboard (removable). Equipment includes rare factory option leather covered dash and cockpit surrounds and central armrest, a heater, a dash-mounted rear-view mirror, Austin-branded floormats, and a wood gearshift knob. The steering wheel is a period factory option, custom wood rimmed wheel.\r\n\r\nSmiths instrumentation includes an optional 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and supplemental gauges (all working). The five-digit odometer shows 12,939 miles, which is the actual mileage since the restoration. \r\n\r\nThe 2,660cc inline-four features dual SU carburetors and a Darrington Steel split exhaust header. The engine was rebuilt in 2002 and all components were magnifluxed, nitrate-hardened and balanced with lightened fly-wheel. What it is not is a Concours restored car built to how it was delivered from the factory in 1956. This is not a criticism, just the fact that the restorer, BM, chose to tastefully restore the car to his personal preferences, i.e. non-standard colors white over Lobelia Blue with the addition of the red stripe [easily removed], not adding the rear reflectors [something that many owners/restores chose to omit], upgraded Derrington style exhaust with a side exit, leather covered fascia panel and cockpit trim [a rare factory option in 1956], original aftermarket finned aluminum valve cover and period correct wood steering wheel [both of which are approved as options in Concours without deduction].\r\n\r\nThe only things I feel need to be addressed are the seller\u2019s term of the car being \u201cHealey\u201d white. BN1/2s were delivered I Old English White and Ivory white. There is no such thing as Healey white. The car was delivered in \u201cHealey\u201d blue over Ivory white as referenced by the heritage certificate.\r\nSecondly, the H6 carburetors... Original Factory M\u2019s came with carburetors embossed on the side of the body with AUC 6040 with the suffix \u201cX\u201d or \u201cAA\u201d. Below these markings were the hand etched numbers 6047 and 6053. Over 35 years of examining factory 100Ms, it is apparent to me and other experts [the late Kent Lacy] that one person etched these numbers, and the font was quite unique and identifiable. Coupled with the lack of an X or AA suffix, the font on these, while close, does not pass my scrutiny, and appears to be altered. Is this a big deal? NO! The beautiful finned aluminum valve cover was an expensive, popular after-market accessory desired by many owners of new Healeys. The carburetors are the correct 6040 models.
