This one will likely need a rebore, new pistons. The crank may be in excellent shape, requiring only polishing and a new set of standard bearings. I have done a number of engines with piston and ring problems that had no issues with the cranks or rods, including the bearings. All that I did was to resize the rods when the rod bolts were replaced, polish the journals and replace the bearings. Yes, this may be wishful thinking, but it is not likely that the crank or rods would be beyond refurbishment. The rest will be blueprinting, freshening of the cylinder heads and replacement of any worn parts. In the end, the engine will be back to original specs. Accessories will need to be inspected (and there are a lot of them to inspect, including an old school Bosch mechanical fuel injection system). \r\nWhen finished, the car will still have its original engine, matching numbers and maybe 30% more value. But then, the cost of the overhaul could be nearly 30% of the car's value. Still, worth it. \r\n\r\n'Not sure about the price of parts being as those of an Acura, but there are a lot of old Mercedes parts available. I doubt that there is anything for that engine that can't be bought or refurbished. \r\n\r\nWhile there are a lot of guys who think that replacing the engine with another long block assembly will have little to do with the value of the car. those guys are the first to complain that the numbers \"are not matching\".
