For those who might be unfamiliar, Superformnace vehicles are not kit cars they are delivered as a rolling chassis that come painted, with all suspension, brakes, electrical, interior, and other items in preparation for the clients choice of drivetrain to be installed. They are also unique in the fact that close to 80% of the parts will interchange with a real GT40. They are also allowed in the Shelby registry and can be vintage raced. I purchased this GT40 last summer and it has been a thrill to own and enjoy. We have taken it to many cars and coffee meetups, car shows, and the Shelby party in Boulder Colorado where I obtained Peter Miles signature. In preparation for the sale all fluids have been changed and components inspected. From the accurately spot welded steel monocoque to the steel roof (and that is oe large stamping), it is a precise copy. Precise enough that some GT40 vintage racers keep a Superformance hull around just in case something untoward happens. This is not a tube frame copy, with a GT40 body dumped onto it, and a basic suspension system. This is the real thing. Even better, if feels like the real thing to drive. And it is also quite nicely made. Much better than any other GT40 built in period. \r\n\r\nHigh Tech Automotive in RSA is perfection driven They get everything right, and then they do the development. Buy the car, set it up as the book says, and it will work incredibly well. The dampers, brakes, spring rates, all dialed in. They didn't cheap out on the systems, and were easy on the changes that they had to make to be legal in certain markets. \r\n\r\nI have a favorite configuration. Right hand drive, right hand shift (because that is the original setup with the shaft shifter, not the cable unit. 331 ci alloy block Ford with Gurney-Weslake heads and Webers. The gearbox can be a Quaife, like this one, or the ZF CR with an LSD. I would love for it to be dry sumped, but then he A/C would have to go, and you know, the windows don't roll down... I brought a Superformance Cobra into CA from IN in 2017 and I simply followed the steps that the state laid out. Inconvenient due to two trips to inspection station and three trips to the DMV, but I went in with patience and came out with a license plate and no drama at all. \r\n\r\nWhen I researched it prior and read all of the negative ninnies posts, I was worried. One person's post pushed me forward, writing \"The Ca DMV would register and plate a wooden log if it met legal parameters. It is all that they do.\" and that stuck with me.\r\n\r\nThere is usually one DMV in each area that has a reputation for understanding, and Pleasanton, CA DMV was the one that I read about. Not a problem at all.\r\n\r\nThe 351w block dates to 1959(?) and CARB identified it as such a vintage, so there's a sticker on my car's frame stating that for smog purposes the car is a 1960. It's titled as a 1965 Ford Cobra - SPCN (Special Construction) with the DMV. It was built in 1999. \r\n\r\nReally: If you're into fast food convenience, get a Corvette. \r\nIf you are at all mechanical and would like a suspension that can be corner balanced using fully adjustable race-grade suspension and the feel of a race car, Superformance makes a superior product. My car needs adjustment and fiddling from time to time, but it returns so much that it is worth it. \r\n\r\nLiked my SPF experience that I put a deposit on a new GT40 last year. This one is quite attractive, and in the end, what do you want? I too am tired (as are a few upset sellers here on BaT) about all the BS about SB100 certifications. Those peeved sellers are all experienced with car building, and the SB100 certification process. The others, well \"They don't know nothin'\". CARB is not mentioned when certifying the car. The builder sets the date, which is recommended to be \"1960\". This is regardless of the engine, chassis, color, or the name you want to put on it. 1960 is pre anything safety or emissions. Get it? \r\nIf you have a knowledgable DMV, this is not much of a process. The cars I have done have two or three trips to the DMV (one for the initial filing and sequence number, one for any paperwork after the initial BAR and shop visit, and one to pick up the plates (as they are usually PLPs). Never a rejection, over 20 cars. \r\nBAR trips are simple. Visual inspection, inspection of papers. No emissions test. Application of the \"sticker\". Then to the Brake and Headlight inspection. That one took a little longer in order to determine if the car needed a \"CMSL\", which, after a perusal of the manuals and a call to the BAR, it was determined that it didn't need one. \r\nThen, we went back to the DMV to check the paperwork, and waited a few weeks for the license plates. Our DMV in Thousand Oaks is quick and efficient, and in fact, did what was possibly the first SB100 in California. \r\nThe really funny thing is that this process is far easier than the \"SVA\" that has to be done in the UK, where kit and component cars are common. No hoops to jump through, or little padded buttons over the exposed bolts, or sound drive by tests. \r\nThis georgous GT40, with my favorite Mk1 bodywork, will pass in CA. The only thing I see that might be missing is the PCV system.
