For those of you who have been waiting for an all-original museum-quality example of this Marcello Gandini masterpiece of a car, here it is. The paint is original and shines like new. The interior is original. The dash is not cracked. The instrument needles are not warped. The car runs and drives beautifully. The targa top is in fantastic condition. It has the very rare AMCO soft targa. And one of the best features (let the controversy begin) is it's NOT bogged and weighed down with factory A/C. The car has been driven very little in the last 10 years; maybe 500 miles. So I renewed the hydraulics and brakes as described in the narrative. But my top priority in 16 years of ownership is to keep the car as original as possible. It's only original once. That's why I haven't fixed the few little items noted in the narrative. In fact, several months ago I replaced the heater valve and went to change the coolant hoses, but found them to be in great condition, so I left them on the car. The car has always been garaged so I'm not surprised they are still serviceable. Heck, when I bought the car in 2008, it still had the original tires on it. Still kicking myself for changing them. I have replaced a few parts along the way, but nothing has been modified. To address a few comments: The car was built in February of 1980, so not sure about it being a '79. It's titled as an '80. My phone made the clutch pedal squeak sound horrendous; much more than it is. I'll try to take care of it and get another driving video. Anyway, ask any questions. This is gonna sound like hyperbole, but in 16+ years this car has never dripped a single drop of engine or gearbox oil. The evidence of seepage under the bell housing and on the end of the engine oil pan is from sitting for long periods of time. Notice how there is nothing about to drip in the pictures, and I did not wipe it down. What you see is how the car is. The car needs to be driven more. But most of what is seen under the car is the factory applied corrosion protection. The brown waxy stuff that you see on the oil pan and bell housing is the same bear grease type coating as you see in the front and rear trunks/boots. Those wide black streaks running the length of the car are also factory treatments, not any kind of fluid leakage. It looks as though the factory applied the undercoating before painting. Notice the coolant hoses look blistered when they are simply coated. The factory was not very precise about spraying the underside. But they had to do something. By 1979 Fiat had a terrible reputation for rust. After a closer look, I realized from the pictures and from the VIN that your X1/9 is actually the X1/9 that I bought new in 1981!!! \r\n\r\nThe selling dealer, Ramsey Auto Imports, advertised in NY area papers that they had a number of Fiats X1/9\u2019s for sale. When I went to look at their inventory, they had a number of left over 1980 X1/9s and I had the choice on color, carbureted or fuel injected and some also had A/C. Not being familiar with fuel injection, I decided to go with this beautiful silver carbureted one. The car did not come with a radio and I installed the Alpine radio / cassette deck and the Alpine speakers in the shelf behind the seats. I looked at a number of 1980 X1/9\u2019s to see where the antennas were installed and the majority of them were on the left rear fender so I installed the antenna there. Also, shortly after purchase I had the car rust proofed demonstrated by the various plugs in the door openings and the brown rust proofing material at the very front of the front trunk and in the bottom of the wells in the rear trunk.
