It was my Father-in-Law's bike and has been in the family for well over 40 years. The first year models had a lot of first year only parts which can be a PITA to find, so this later model should be easier in that aspect (eg the only repro exhausts available are for later bikes like this). From an engineering standpoint they are very interesting being the first ever watercooled two stroke triple (of course Scott made one the first if not the first water cooled bike back in the thirties). These bikes are quick as opposed to outright fast, with typical two stroke throttle response. The bike is pretty heavy and wide, and the centerstands are not the easiest to use. That said, it is a smooth and pleasant bike to ride in that 70's sort of way. Whoever buys this bike should reference Ian Sandy's website oldjapanesebikes.com. If it hasn't been done, a change to tapered headstock bearings is a very worthwhile upgrade. The original bearings look like they were taken from a bicycle (IIRC they were no different from Suzuki's smaller dirtbikes). I f you get into the correct circumstances a Water Bottle will give you a tank slapper that will add 5 years to your actual age. Also beware of swingarm axle and bearing slop, they weren't particularly marvelous right out of the crate. No, when compared to modern bikes, it's not fast. And it vibrates a bit over 5000 RPM, which is to be expected. Modern tires and shocks made a significant difference in handling. Unlike the four-stroke four-cylinder bikes of that era, the GT750 has a wonderfully low center of gravity. I had an H-2 Kawasaki 750 and it's power band was the polar opposite of my old water buffalo and it had exhilarating acceleration. I remember it was recommended for optimum performance to re-ring the H2 every 2,000 miles. My two CVs versions are just as nice as this one and I love to ride them (heavy as they are at times). My 73 is 'purple haze' version with exhaust tips. Actually, early ones were faster than the more civil/sedate CV versions. BTW...these bikes were so comfortable that Tokyo motorcycle police used them for patrol bikes until switching over to CB750s...then later KZs. Before the GT750s, they rode mostly CB450s and Kawasaki W1s. So that should tell you something about how reliable and ride-able these Buffalos were/are.
