(Apparently this was a dealer installed option in the US, however there is no way to really track it/document it.) We hadn\u2019t decided if we were going keep it or remove it, so we left it and cleaned it up some. It actually looks just like vinyl unless you get right up on it. (Car was originally sold out of Sacramento, California, but came to the US via New York.)\r\n\r\nWe have done a lot of work to get the car looking good again, but honestly, it wasn\u2019t too hard, as Rudy is one the most solid 1600/2002s you will ever find. Rudy is a rare Bristol gray color but is currently a primer gray. (Which is close in color to Bristol.) Rudy also has a faux black vinyl top, which we believed to be installed by the dealer when new. Rudy also comes with original service book and owner\u2019s manual. A lot of work has been done to him, which I will do my best to outline below. \r\n\r\nThe motor has been upgraded to a 2.0 from a 1969 2002 and has the very desirable 121 Ti head. I have no idea the mileage and neither did the prior owner, however it runs strong. I compression tested the motor, and the cylinders average 164 psi, and are all are within 4-5 psi from one another. It has the original 4spd transmission. \r\n\r\nWork completed- \r\n\r\n\u2022 The entire interior floor was stripped down to metal and was sealed and painted. \r\n\u2022 The interior floor and rear seat area were covered in sound-deadening KilMat. \r\n\u2022 Brand new carpet was installed\r\n\u2022 The passenger seat was reupholstered with matching material (I have some fabric left that will be included)\r\n\u2022 The original center console was refurbished and reassembled\r\n\u2022 The original radio and speaker were installed into center console. Both of these are in working condition. A genuine VDO, period correct clock was installed in the console. (Converted to battery power so there is no draw on the car battery when the car is in storage.)\r\n\u2022 The rear shelf piece was replaced and refinished. Below this shelf, are brand new, Rockford Fosgate 6x9 speakers were installed to work with the original radio or an aftermarket stereo set up of some kind, which I had intentions of hiding in the trunk. A custom rear shelf was made to hide the speakers, as I wanted an original look. (you cannot tell the speakers are there)\r\n\u2022 Brand new wheels and tires were installed. Tires have 100% tread. (Driven less than 200 miles, have center caps for wheels, see pics.)\r\n\u2022 Brand new rear bumper was installed. A brand new complete front bumper will also be included but has not been installed. (See pics. Do not have front bumper brackets.)\r\n\u2022 New exhaust system, has a great sound.\r\n\u2022 Rear windshield was taken out and seal replaced\r\n\u2022 Vinyl racing stickers were installed for a sporty look while Rudy is awaiting new paint.\r\n\r\nRudy comes with:\r\n\u2022 Extra center console pieces \r\n\u2022 Extra (pattern and period correct) vinyl for future seat repairs\r\n\u2022 New front windshield seal\r\n\u2022 Owner\u2019s manual and old service record book\r\n\u2022 Original sun visors which are not currently installed\r\n\u2022 New BMW paint color ID sticker\r\n\u2022 New clutch pedal return spring\r\n\u2022 Extra grill pieces. (Side pieces only, do not have an extra kidney grill) These are not in great shape but have been used as donors.\r\n\u2022 Aluminum Redline intake with Weber 32/26 carb. (Never installed because Rudy runs perfect on the original carb.)\r\n\r\nNearly all the rust and body work have been addressed. The rockers and floor pans are solid and were sanded down to remove surface rust, and were resealed with anti-rust compound, and then painted. There are only two rust spots left. (Pictured) The spare tire recess in the trunk is rusted out, and needs to be replaced. I was going to order the patch and do the repair, but never got around to it. It is a common problem for these cars. The front nose section down below near the air dam has a couple rust holes that will need to be patched. Oddly, only the driver\u2019s side is bad, passenger side is solid. The trouble area is currently hidden by the license plate and is pictured in the auction ad. \r\n\r\nAll the gauges work aside from the speedometer/odometer. Sending the speedometer in to be repaired was the next item on my list, but never got done. Everything else works, including the original radio and speaker. (See video)\r\n\r\nRudy is super reliable, and is a true survivor. During the summer, I drive him to work every chance I get. He fires up every time, and loves to stretch his legs.\r\n\r\nThis is a GREAT car and is a blast to drive.
