I would say that it hasn't even been wet in 15 -20 years because it was never taken out except on nice weekend evenings so not even a need to wash it. As for the air we presume that it works and we will put the belt on to test it out and get back to you on that. Again, with the limited amount of miles this car has since 1995, AC wasn't really a necessity here in Michigan. I presume it works because my dad, uncle and their buddies had an annoying habit of disabling the AC on their cars as to not consume horse power....Great for getting off the line but not so great at the end of the evening with my best girl and a little cool air would have been nice...but that's not what you asked about:) My point is that I think that is why the AC unit doesn't have the belt on it. Save for that for your worthless V6 Cutlass. Keep your 442 an Oldsmobile. An Oldsmobile 330, 350, or 403 is a direct bolt-in, and a 400, 425, or 455 is just a couple of accessory bracket modifications from fitting.\n\nThe 9 code engine in the VIN is the high-output 307. That doesn't designate the car as a 442, but since you couldn't get that engine in anything else, it is by default a 442. The 442 was not a separate model on G-bodies, so the VIN for an '87 442 will just show GR1, meaning that it's a Cutlass Supreme coupe. The SPID sticker on the 442 should show W42 for 442, N83 for chrome 15\"x7\" wheels, G87 for 8.5\" rear end, GT4 for 3.73 gears, and LG8 for high-output 307. I think any other option codes would be available on a regular Cutlass.\n\nAs for the air conditioner, I've never seen a G-body over 15 years old where it still worked. I was under the impression those cars had the Hurst Shifter Loc \"theft deterrent\" installed on them. That was nothing more than a pistol grip that replaced the original T-handle, and it had a cylindrical-keyed button on top, so you could leave the car running, but the shifter still wouldn't move without tearing some stuff apart.
