Ya, ya I know, a car or anything else is worth what someone will pay but I think that price is flat out over the top. I watch the '70 Chevelle SS market on a daily basis and the seller did extremely well. And I can site numerous examples. Let me list just one. Recently a \"supercar\" type dealer in the Detroit area listed a '70 SS396 with the much more valuable 375 HP L78/four speed, nearly every other option available, Cranberry Red with red interior, in a restoration that was so phenomenal that I couldn't stop looking at it. List price? $51,500 and it took several months to sell. And they may have actually taken less. I could go on and on. This car is the base SS L34 engine, sold in the highest numbers, an automatic is worth less than a four speed, no cowl hood, to be blunt a low production color (in other words not very popular when new). It does have the bucket seats/console package and it is in very good shape but this car can be purchased all day long for $45,000. Fifty something is LS5/L78 four speed territory. On BaT I think the provenance seems to have much more effect on values than many other venues. On the other hand I watch a Mecum or such auction and while most of the time the cars I watch closely bring less than I think they're worth but many times a car brings way more than I think it should. A product of two bidders who both want that car they had back in the day, and they throw common sense out the window and hold their bidding hand high.
